Young Professionals Annual Report 2015 Activities since May 2014: Tiffany Lufkin, Co-Chair, served as co-chair on the local host planning committee for Young Professionals Events for the AWWA ACE in Boston, June 2014. The Young Professionals Committee has met monthly since October 2014. Attendance at meetings averages 6-10 people. Meetings are held after business hours during the week. A new Co-Chair, Sam Hall, of EJ Prescott, was elected and approved by the Board on February 6, 2015. The committee planned and hosted the annual Fresh Ideas poster competition at ATCAVE on February 24th. Fresh Ideas is an annual national competition among student and young professional members of AWWA with goals of getting new members involved in AWWA, encouraging student and young professional participation from all areas of the water industry, getting section YP and MAC members involved in section conference program activities, stimulating progressive thinking, and reducing the financial hardship for new members who want to attend ACE. The finalists of each Section win a sponsorship to ACE and compete for top honors. This year’s Section competition was held at ATCAVE. There were two participants: Kevin Armstrong of the Town of Portland with his poster “Digitizing Your Water Infrastructure” and Amy Busko of the Regional Water Authority with her poster “Streamlining Residuals Management”. The competition was judged by Mark Anderson, Dan Lesnieski, and Gerald Reginatto. In the closely judged competition, Amy Busko was selected as the winner. Through the winter the committee worked to plan a fundraising event. On March 10, 2015 the Committee held the “Mini Golf Night” charity event to raise money for Water for People. Over 60 people were in attendance and $2,253.95 was collected for a donation. The event was hosted by 12 young professional volunteers and was a great success! The YPC is currently planning its next event, a Trivia Night for young professional members.
