Positive Attitude Respectful Behavior Independent Thinking Dedication to Safety Engaged in Learning CLASSROOM NEWS KINDERGARTEN : Wow, what a year! To better state that-what a GREAT year! We have covered a lot of material and participated in many fun and exciting projects. We have started to develop skills needed for first grade. In Social Studies, we learned how money is made and how we earn and spend it. We’ve been on great adventures through the ocean learning about the layers of the ocean and many animals that live within those layers. We made it all the way through kindergarten from the first day that was filled with tears and fears to the end of the year learning to read and write! Your students have grown so much this year and it has been such a privilege to have been able to work with them! FIRST GRADE : WOW!!! It’s hard to believe that this year is already over. What a wonderful year we had! We learned about our community, animal habitats, inventors, maps, community helpers and many more science and social studies topics. Our students have worked so hard and are now fluent first grade readers that are able to find text evidence to answer questions and write fantastic paragraphs. They also worked so hard learning all of their math facts. Our trip to the Fire Station was a TON of fun and very educational too! We would like to thank all the parents for their help and support throughout the year. We could not have done it without you! We hope you all have a wonderful summer. Please don’t forget to read over the summer. It’s very important that your child continues to practice the skills that they have learned throughout the year. Also, make sure you continue to practice math facts as well. We wish each and every student the best of luck in second grade! THIRD GRADE : SECOND GRADE : We have had a great 4th nine weeks in second grade. It is hard to believe the school year is over! We have been working on reading skills such as finding the theme, point of view, sequence, visualize, compare/contrast, cause/effect, in our stories. We are still working to find text evidence to support our answers about the text that we are reading. Also, we are working on being able to write about the text evidence we find. In Math, we have been working on: geometry, partitioning and fractions. We have included story problems with these concepts and writing in math. Please practice basic addition and subtraction facts at home because after second grade they are expected to be memorized. Your child will be moving on to multiplication and division in 3rd grade which is a 3rd grade standard. In Science , we have been learning about basic needs and the scientific method. In Social Studies, we have been learning about: maps, cultures, communities and economics. We have enjoyed learning about immigration and Ellis Island. Thank you for a terrific school year! We have come to the end of another busy but productive 3rd grade year! The children were administered the Florida Standards Assessment test (FSA) in both reading and math. We will receive the results during the summer. The Titanic themed lessons were a great success and the children’s passenger research projects looked fantastic! Our classrooms were busy working on their Science Fair projects for Science Night as well as completing their AR reading goals for the 4th nine weeks. The third grade teachers would like to take this time to remind parents to please continue to practice multiplication and division facts over the summer with their children. As always, utilize the public library for the children’s summer reading lists. Again parents, thank you for your continued support and we hope you have a restful and relaxing summer! FOURTH GRADE : This year has been terrific! Our fourth graders have reached for the stars this year with the new standards! We had loads of fun on our field trip to AgriFest, learning about Polk County agriculture. We are so proud of the great work they have done this year. From windmills to Science Fair projects, students showed their knowledge! This summer as you prepare for fifth grade, it is important to continue to practice reading and writing skills and keep practicing math facts. A great tip for the summer is to keep a journal of all the great things you do this summer! FIFTH GRADE : Well that’s all folks! The 2014-2015 school year has come to an end. We have worked diligently to prepare our students for success in middle school. We encourage you to keep your child reading and studying those math facts over the summer. There are many online tools, and summer enrichment programs the focus on preventing the “summer slide”. Are you planning a trip this summer? Consider having your child research the area, attractions, and history of the place. Not only will this keep their study skills sharp, but it will also make the event more meaningful. Even a trip to the local park can be explored in an academic way! Thank you for all the support you have shown throughout the year. We wish you all well in the future. Check out our new website!!!
