FOURTH GRADE NEWS!!
The fieldtrip forms and cover letter were sent
home the week of February 11th regarding
our great escape to St. Augustine, Florida,
America’s Oldest City. The trip will take place
on Tuesday, May 14th from 8:30A.M. until
5:30P.M. The cost of the trip is $48.00. A
payment plan has been set-up in case you
are unable to pay the fees all at once. Please
make sure you adhere to the payment schedule so that your child doesn’t miss this great
opportunity. The final payment MUST be
made by April 30th—NO EXCEPTIONS! We
want to take every 4th grade student and
have a fantastic, fun-filled day celebrating
their hard work this year!
SECOND GRADE NEWS!!
Please monitor your child’s reading and math homework and sign the
planner nightly to check for notes from the teacher. You should see
your child bringing home a 100 Book Challenge reading record sheet.
All students need to read fifteen minutes nightly and you can sign a line
on the log for every fifteen minutes read. This month we are going on
a fieldtrip to the Gillispie Rock Museum!
Children’s author Dr. Seuss is our March author of the month. Theodor
Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as the beloved Dr. Seuss, was
born in 1904 on Howard Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. Website:

Parent Tip for March :
 Tell family tales- Children love to hear stories about their family. Talk
about a funny thing that happened when you were young.
 Create a writing toolbox- Fill a box with drawing and writing materials. Find opportunities for your child to write, such as the shopping
list, thank you notes, or birthday cards.

and it was a magical evening for all involved highlighting the best elementary musicians from across Volusia County.
Congratulations to : Charlize Cruz , Cat Vy Nguyen, Kasia Ingram-Butler, Hanna Kim, and Shyanne Kuhl for being selected to perform with the chorus; Tyler Bull, Jacob Haumiller, Phu Bui, Tam Huynh, Christopher Quatrocci for being
selected for the Orff Instrumental Ensemble, and Katelyn Ferdinand and Makenna Owens for the Recorder Instrumental
Ensemble. We are so very proud of these young musicians for their hard work and for a fabulous performance.
th
Secondly, I would like to officially introduce our Senior Music Intern from Bethune Cookman University, Mr.
Brandon Marshall. He started with us in January and will be with us until the end of April. Mr. Marshall is a trumpet
player and jazz musician and has been sharing his expertise of jazz and orchestral musical instruments with our students
here at Champion. Welcome Mr. Marshall.
Next, I want to make all students aware of the upcoming auditions for the annual Champion Elementary Talent
Show. Students need to start preparing their acts for the auditions which will be the week after spring break. If anyone
needs help preparing their act, please come see Mrs. Light or Mr. Marshall and we will be happy to help you get ready
for the auditions, which will be the first week of April.
And finally, a special honor has been offered to the Champion Elementary Orff Enrichment Ensemble and
STOMP Percussion Ensemble.
They have been invited to perform at Sea World during the month of May, we are so very proud of all these
students and I am sure they will represent Champion Elementary in an extraordinary way. Congrats to you all!
