ASSIST receives $10,000 from CBC’s HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA HELP FUND (WINDSOR, ONTARIO, WEDNESDAY JUNE 16, 2010) – Families in Windsor-Essex struggling to find funds to register their children in organized hockey programs will ultimately benefit from a $10,000 donation from the Hockey Night in Canada Help Fund to ASSIST – Putting Kids in Hockey. “This funding will go a long way towards helping us meet our goal of ensuring that no child is left out of playing hockey due to financial reasons,” said ASSIST board chair Mike Dugal. “We were absolutely thrilled when we learned that our application had been approved.” ASSIST is a grassroots group of people with a lifelong passion for hockey committed to raising funds to help kids experience Canada’s national game. Since 2007, ASSIST has helped more than 65 families by covering a portion of their registration costs through fund-raising events such as pasta dinners, raffles, golf tournaments and its showcase event, a 24-hour, three-on-three hockey game in March. The Hockey Night in Canada Help Fund was established in 2008 to assist more Canadians to participate in hockey. Eligible groups across Canada are provided financial assistance that will: Provide Canadians facing financial and geographical barriers an opportunity to participate in the game of hockey Make the sport of hockey available to the most number of Canadians Utilize the sport of hockey as an instrument of national unity “The ASSIST program’s goals are completely consistent with what we’re trying to accomplish with our Hockey Night in Canada Help Fund,” said Joel Darling, Director of Production for CBC Sports. “At the local level, they’re doing what we’re doing on a national level, so this is a perfect fit.
