PhD Positions in Medical Physics at the University of Texas at Arlington
The Medical Physics group in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Arlington
(UTA) invites outstanding candidates to apply for multiple PhD positions, whose enrollment can
be Spring 2016 or Fall 2016. Our research focuses on the development of image reconstruction
and processing algorithms for multiple image modalities and the development of particle/photon
(KeV to MeV) detectors using gas electron multiplier and SiPM for medical imaging purposes.
The Medical Physics group is a new research direction in Physics at UTA. We apply new
physics discoveries to the medical research and ultimately to the benefit of patients. We have
strong expertise in medical image modeling, image processing and data analysis. Our projects
include nuclear imaging of heart, magnetic resonance image analysis, cancer imaging, and
image-guided intervention. The medical imaging device development is another strategic
direction of our group. We work with the High Energy Physics group at UTA, which has been
playing significant roles in ATLAS experiment, has a long history in detector construction and
commissioning, and hosts a U.S. ATLAS Tier 2 computing center. We also have strong
collaborations with clinical partners in Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Surgery at Univ. of
Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Applications should include resume, transcripts including GRE (and TOEFL for non-native
English speakers), a statement of research interests, and names/contacts of three references in the
application package. The package should be sent to Mingwu Jin ([email protected]).
The University of Texas at Arlington is conveniently located in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington
Metro area and close to the DFW international airport. It is a comprehensive research institution
of more than 51,000 students in campus-based and online degree programs and is the second
largest institution in The University of Texas System. The Chronicle of Higher Education ranked
UT Arlington as one of the 20 fastest-growing public research universities in the nation in 2014.
