Comments from the UT Arlington Library Public Website Survey Conducted by the Web Usability Committee, on behalf of the Strategy 4.3.1 (CMS) Work Group Survey responses provided November 6, 2008-January 5, 2009 Services 1. Specify where printing locations are instead of just how much it is or how to do it. (Did link to OIT, but they have no information whatsoever when trying to find color printer locations) 2. more search engines, such as help guides 3. Make it easier to renew books online from the homepage for people who come to the website only to do an online renewal. Currently, a person would have to know to go to the library catalogue and click "my account" or click several links and read several pages and find a bunch of superfluous information when clicking "borrow & renew" link under Services. It's too many pages to follow and too much information to sift through and find for a person who simply wants to renew their books online but don't know where to specifically go to do it. There should just be one link that says "Renew Your Books Online" or something, and that link should take you to the log-in screen for book renewals, with instructions on what to do, or instructions for guest users below the login. 4. Have some guidelines as to what database to use to find an article, like which ones you might find economics articles in, or anatomy, etc. If this already exists, it needs to be easier to find. 5. search should include departmrnt too.if not we are getting the results of entire departments. 6. specific info on how to use/do things- like refworks and Word-disseration, grant writing, archival measures formulas 7. A top 20 or 30 list of the most frequently used web pages, so that I don't have to make up one of my own and refer to it. 8. a direct link to the UTA website - OR - an easier way to access the UTA Website i.e.to access the UTA Website, I typically go to the very bottom of the UT Arlington web page and select the UTA address hyperlink - is there an easier way??? 9. a login page link on the main page 10. If by social tagging you mean allowing students to rate books and comment on if they were helpful, that would be extremely useful. 11. ability to customize library homepage for each individual ( ie through a user account) 12. where teachers can save the article link for student to read or print 13. "online reference classroom" for class information from things like the CARMA in management, the writing and style classes like the word for diss and writing circles, grant writing, etc. also services such as transcription and editing services interface for meeting records and journal submissions 14. the number of the library on the main page! 15. SINGLE LOGIN SYSTEM WITH MYMAV 16. Having a tutorial page which shows you how to access the programs offered by the library for student use. 17. include the feature that shows the number of laptops available in both the central and engineering library seperately. 18. Maybe a commonly used by "college of _____" links page. 19. how to get articles that I do not have to pay for. I thought that was why the university pays a WHOLE bunch of money to have access to jounal articles. So students do not have to pay extra for such things. I just find it very difficult to Comments-Website Services February 3, 2009 Page 1 of 2 understand how to find things on the website. Library staff is usually not around to help one understand or are extremly rude, or make you feel like you are troubling them. It would be nice to be able to figure out what one needs to do on their own on how to access and use the library website. Comments-Website Services February 3, 2009 Page 2 of 2
