Comments from the UT Arlington Library Public Website Survey
On the physical services or facilities of the UT Arlington Library
Conducted by the Web Usability Committee, on behalf of the
Strategy 4.3.1 (CMS) Work Group
Survey responses provided November 6, 2008-January 5, 2009
1. Services such as transcription and editing services
2. (1) It is particularly frustrating to use the UT Arlington Library computers (especially
in the Science & Engineering Library) due to the extremely slow access times (from
log-on to boot-up is very slow). I have timed from Log-on to actually having access
to anything typically took 3.5 minutes on the average (with the longest time being
eight minutes!). (2) I appreciate having access to the scanners (in the Science &
Engineering Library) - very nice!
3. Computers are very well kept
4. Please let everyone know that libraries are FOR QUIET WORK! People are very loud
on every floor, including the 5th
5. clean computer areas frequently
6. Whenever logging on to the computers on floors 2-5 I wish the default home page
was not the libraries but instead uta's homepage!!!!!! This is very annoying instead if
you could just make a link from uta homepage to the library homepage.
7. So far its comfortable..May be more of text books for Engineering dept may be
increased so that students can use them as references and assistance.
8. I love our library and the people there
9. Advertise events better
10. I think the website is generally helpful, especially because help desks and librarians
are almost always there for further assistance.
11. Floor plan sometimes a new students confused between help desk and circulation
desk
12. texshare card validity period should be increased from one month. silence is not
observed in the NH basement library. include some of the trusted websites which
sells used and new textbooks for cheap. include the link of UTA book store.
13. They are too noisy - especially the SEL. Hard to concentrate.
14. I could not do my work as a researcher without the online website-- specifically the
database searches. However, I do not like the new ebsco-- only a small percent of
the screen is my search results- the rest is garbage. It is very hard to "save" results
or article lists with the current folder system-- I can't separate papers from different
projects. Why do I have to make up passwords all the time-- There are already 5
computer systems I have to log into :(* In addition- if I have to go to a journal
website from a link in the results, I cannot save the paper or print it out without an
act of God (not to mention navigating the various "unique" properties of these
external sites). I also can't figure out how to use refworks. Also there are many
journals that are particular to my field of entrepreneurship that the library does not
own access to, and there are many working-sites that are not listed as topic sources
(such as LED Digest, kaufman, etc). Trying to find services is a nightmare -- for
example I have tried to get services for video, transcription, editing, GIS, archival
data guidance-- all either lengthy processes of emails and visits that may or may not
be answered in chasing leads and attempting contacts and appointments, and rarely
have I obtained these services. Various services sponsors say that putting these
things is being thought about or etc, but this statement is not the services actually
being there and being used. I also wonder if there is a way to have digital video
resources. I use texybook video and other digital that is either redone from tape into
digital files, or is on dvd. there is no place to store or cataglog this stuff. This means

I lug the only copy I have around and hope nothing happens to it, that I have to use
my mavspace for storage and allow open permission to students to get to it, or I
have to spend hours transferring to some format in the basement media center that
may or may not work in the classroom equipment. If this stuff was available like
digital print stuff, through the library, it would be great- I could just post links and/or
go to the online library from class to show them. (Grad/Faculty, EDUC/MANA)
