Course Description:
This course introduces students to current network operating
systems. The basic and intermediate concepts associated with
network operating systems will be discussed and explored.
Technologies specific to local area networking will be utilized and
implemented with a network operating system.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Understand networking concepts related to services provided
by Linux/Unix Network Operating Systems
2. Gain an understanding of networking technologies using
Unix/Linux
3. Implement network communications using Unix/Linux
4. Install
5. Redirect output
6. Configure basic network settings
7. Demonstrate start-up and shut-down
8. Identify and use Unix/Linux commands and utilities

Instructional Methods:
A combination of discussion, lecture, and hands-on activities will be used.

4. All students, faculty, and staff are required to conform to

student is giving or receiving unauthorized assistance during an
examination, the materials will be removed from the involved
parties. Each student will receive a grade of “0” on the
examination, and each student may be subject to disciplinary
action (see College Catalog). Plagiarism is a form of cheating.
Crediting and citing authors or sources will avoid plagiarism.
Grading Criteria:
Students must receive a minimum of 70% or better in all general
education and program core courses. Please see the Academic
Catalog for general graduation requirements.
