Ofcom is the communications regulator and competition authority for the UK communication industries with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications, spectrum and postal services. Ofcom faces a demanding agenda as communications markets converge both domestically and internationally and demand increases for spectrum. Non-Executive Directors The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport wishes to make two appointments to the Ofcom Board to replace key members who have completed their terms of office. LONDON Ofcom is seeking individuals who can bring: • the ability to understand the business and economic principles underpinning the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal sectors in the digital environment; • sound judgement and decision-making to ensure successful delivery in a highly complex organisation; • an appreciation of the competitive and consumer dynamics of these fast changing sectors; • the ability to operate at Board level and be team players working with the Chairman and other colleagues. Candidates for one of the roles should also have experience of editorial decision-making at a senior level in broadcasting or journalism. Candidates for the other role should also have strong business/commercial experience in a large, company (or its equivalent) with a familiarity with innovation-led technology environments ideally in the telecommunications sector. The time commitment is one to two days per week. This post is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
