Kilpatrick was made and passed . . . "that the moderator appoint a committee to study the advisability and possibility of establishing a Junior College in Atlanta." The committee: E. G. Kilpatrick, Chairman, Paul S. James, Dick H. Hall and Monroe F. Swilley. October 20, Association adopted committee recommendation to "approve the idea of establishing a Baptist College in this territory." Central Baptist Church disbanded April 6, giving its property for the College. October 21, at Morningside Baptist Church, Association adopted a committee report and announced the gift from Central. Also, authorized the Atlanta College as a coordinate college of Mercer University, approving a campaign to raise $3,000,000. Report made by Dr. George Sparks. October 20, at Inman Park Baptist Church, Association received report announcing purchase of 464 acre tract; the engagement of Williams and Dean as Architects; and the launching of a fundraising campaign. X9GX X9a3 X964 Total Assets reported as being $1,139,941.58. October 22, Atlanta Baptist Association assumed full responsibility for the Atlanta Baptist College. August 28, Charter secured for Atlanta Baptist College, Inc. October 20, first Board of Trustees of the College teas elected by Atlanta Baptist Association. X9G5f New Campaign for $750,000 announced to match gift of $500,000 from the I. M. Shejfield family. X900 Campaign dates: February 6-20. On July 25, total firm pledges reported: $762,131.54. Trustees voted to let contract to Mion Construction Company for first four buildings at a ceiling price of $2,200,000. August 25, Contracts signed. August 28, Ground Breaking Ceremony.
