Pre- Algebra Syllabus Ms. Sanchez This syllabus provides important information regarding classroom procedures, grading, and behavior. Please read each of the following sections carefully as you will be held accountable for this information. Class Rules: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Be on time, take your seat, and be ready to work when the bell rings. Respect yourself and others. No food or drinks. Always come prepared to learn. Leave ALL electronic devices at home. If they are seen, they will be taken away and turned into the office. (Parents will have to come pick them up after 24 hours) 6. No restroom passes will be given during first 10 and last 10 minutes of a class or during a lesson. Required Supplies Each student must have the following supplies for every class period. 1. Composition Notebook 2. At least two pencils 3. Lined Paper 4. Highlighters 5. Two red pens 6. Four-function calculator 7. Printer (At home) 8. Internet access (At home) Composition Notebook Format Each student will maintain a composition notebook that will be checked periodically for a grade. The notebook should be brought to class every single day. Students are responsible for keeping all of their notes and assignments in the following format: I. II. III. Problems of the Day (P.O.D.) All P.O.D.’s should have the date, question, work, and answer in order to receive full credit. Notes Students will be required to have their guided notes written and in their notebook. Guided notes should be completed in order to receive full credit on a notebook check. Classwork/Graded Assignments All assignments should be in order by date. **This notebook should only contain material pertaining to Pre- Algebra, and not any other classes. Homework All Homework needs to be completed on the MathXL website, www.mathxlforschool.com. You will need to register and sign up for the course using the following access code ____________________ based on your class period. It is your responsibility to keep up with all due dates. No extensions will be given once the deadline date has passed. Grading Assignments Grades will be posted on the electronic grade book as given. Students are allowed to do corrections on every quiz, and one test a quarter. To complete corrections, students must copy the original question, show their work, circle their new answer, and explain in one to two sentences what the error was in their calculation. This must be completed on a new sheet of paper, titled “Corrections”, and stapled to the back of the original test. Incomplete corrections will not be accepted. If a student is absent and it is excused, he/she has two days (the next class period) to turn in all missing classwork. Because homework is completed online, there will no extensions given due to absences. It is the responsibility of the student to complete all missing assignments, and catch up on notes before returning to class. Students will not be allowed to make up assignments when an absence is unexcused (with the exception of tests and quizzes). Honesty policy: Academic honesty and responsibility are expected of all students. Cheating at any level is irresponsible and unacceptable. Copying answers from another student or allowing someone to copy your work, copying someone else’s homework, turning in a paper done by someone else, plagiarism, copying from other printed resources without giving credit to the author, and/or giving or receiving answers, sharing answers, using “cheat sheets,” or other such devices, are all considered cheating. All proper measures will be taken if a student is found to have done any of these things. If there is ANY form of cheating, a “0” will be given for the assignment and if the case of allowing another student to copy homework, both students will receive a “0” as well.
