“Moving Forward Together”

President’s Message
Hi everyone!
I hope this newsletter finds you well. This is already the last newsletter for this year. We had
a fantastic year filled with educational courses and multiple lunches featuring topics such as:





The Calgary Stampede heroic response during the Calgary floods.
Leading and lagging practices in financial statement reporting.
Internal Audit in academic environments.
Audit best practices.
Update on the Enhanced Production Audit Program (an AER Regulatory Compliance Program).
It is now time to look ahead at the new financial year and develop the exciting program for 2014-15 with a fresh
new team and a different formula. One of the changes for this year is that I will be stepping down from the role
of president of the Chapter and will be passing the responsibilities to Raj Devadas. Raj has joined the internal
audit community in Toronto several years ago and has close to 10 years of experience as a governor. Raj is
currently a senior manager at KPMG in their Advisory group and he is in charge of internal audit services. I am
very excited to have Raj in charge of the chapter as he brings a wealth of experience, great energy and a
compelling vision to grow our chapter.
In order to support his vision, Raj is currently creating a new structure with new roles. In other words, we are
currently looking for volunteers for the Board of Governor to fulfill these roles.
The Board provides a unique opportunity to network with your colleagues in Calgary and have an impact on the
profession. Please contact Raj at rdevadas@kpmg.ca if you are interested.
I am looking forward to seeing you at our next event,
Etienne Poulin
President

Chapter Volunteer Opportunity!
This is a great opportunity to serve your local chapter, and make a difference to the growth and promotion of
the Internal Audit profession here in Calgary.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the chapter, please contact Raj Devadas at rdevadas@kpmg.ca
Chapter Sponsorship Information
The IIA Calgary chapter needs your assistance to promote a new initiative. The chapter is the sum of its
members, so in effect we need ‘us’ to help ‘us’.
The Calgary chapter exists to serve its members and promote the internal audit profession. Along with individual
members, the IIA community includes many companies. Often companies see value in aligning with their local
chapter. Companies that partner with their local chapter will be able to publicize their commitment to the
internal audit profession while actively supporting IIA members; both within their company and their
community.
As part of the Calgary chapter’s commitment to promote the profession, the chapter Board is launching a new
and revised sponsorship initiative. As board members, we are excited to take on the responsibilities associated
with coordinating sponsorship activities; however, to truly improve the probability of success we need some
help with the heavy lifting necessary to promote this new initiative.
To help with the re-launch we need your support to raise awareness within your companies. Your support may
be realized through active initiative promotion within your company, passing this email on to your CAE, and/or
countless efforts in between.
Your support in this launch is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Raj Devadas at
rdevadas@kpmg.ca
