Overview
Huawei Symantec’s OceanspaceTM S5000 series of products comprise end-to-end 4 Gbit/s
optic fiber storage systems. As the first set of storage systems with independent intellectual
property rights in China, the S5000 series targets the mid-range and high-end storage
markets. The S5000 integrates high-density, dual plane switch routes, a modular interface, and
multiple levels of data protection technologies.
These features ensure the security and continuity of customers' services. The S500 series
meets the requirements of various services and applications including large-scale databases,
high-performance computing, online transaction processing (OLTP), centralized storage, backup,
disaster recovery, and data migration. The S5000 consists of four products: S5300, S5500, S5600,
and S6800E.

The optimal performance delivers an unparalleled user experience.
As proven by the Sobey test, the performance of the S5000 is twice
that of the HP EVA8100. The S5000 series:
Provides a full 64-bit system design platform (64-bit, high-performance, and
2.6 GHz dual-core CPU, 64-bit bus bandwidth, 64-bit storage operating system,
and 64-bit DDR2 memory with two channels)
Supports integrated CPU memory management. Access efficiency is improved
after the access path is shortened (the bandwidth of the cache bus is 20%
wider than that of similar products).
Provides 10 Gbit/s bus bandwidth - each FC disk can be accessed at line speed
in full-configuration mode.

With its mass storage design and flexible networking, the S5000
assists users reduce the total cost of operation (TCO).
Twenty-four hard disk slots in a single subrack: The number of slots in the
S5000 is 50% greater than that of similar products, which reduces capacity
expansion costs.
Integrated uninterruptible power supply (UPS): By using the integrated
controller design, each control shelf has 24 hard disk slots, which significantly
saves space.
Dual plane switch route: The S5000 uses the FC/IP mixed interface so that
different interfaces can be used to share data between hosts without purchasing
two hosts.
Sixteen FC interfaces on a single device: The number of FC interfaces in the
S5000 is double that of similar products. This reduces expenditure on additional
switches and networking.
Integrated with the carrier-class hardware that features independent
value-added software, the S5000 guarantees customers' services to
the rate of 99.999%. The S5000 series:
Supports active-active controller technology to ensure services run in
real-time.
Employs independent advanced technologies, including HyperImage,
HyperMirror, and HyperCopy, to protect data and ensure that services run
stably.
Provides dual mirroring channels for cache data to avoid data loss.
Incorporates data coffer technology in high-end products to provide power-off
protection for cache data.
Supports disk redundant copy technology to detect suspected faulty disks in
advance and migrate data to prevent system performance degradation.

Supports technology for restoring data in bad disk tracks to reduce disk
failure rate and extend disks’ lifecycles.
Features intelligent global hot-spare disk technology, making hot-spare disks
from different subracks available.
With its optimized system design, the S5000 saves energy and reduces

Supports DC power supply, which is 3% more efficient than AC power and
loses 10% less power.
Incorporates intelligent speed adjustment fan technology to reduce fan noise
and power consumption; fans usually consume 15% of total equipment power.
Features intelligent disk power-on technology to share the power supply load
