Number 7 What happens if an invoice is not paid You are required to pay your levy by the date shown on your invoice, even if your levy is being reassessed. If you think you may have trouble paying, you should contact the ACC Business Service Centre immediately. If your levy is still unpaid two months after the invoice date: • 1% interest will be charged each month • we may charge an additional penalty of 10% on the amount outstanding, every six months • we may also refer your unpaid invoice to a debt collection agency – see below for more information about debt collection. As with your tax obligations, the best way to avoid getting into debt with ACC is through good record keeping and business planning. ACC CoverPlus Extra If you don’t pay your ACC CoverPlus Extra invoice by the due date, your cover is cancelled and you revert to our default ACC CoverPlus or WorkPlace cover. Setting up an Instalment Plan If your ACC invoice is over $500 excluding GST, you can pay by 10 equal instalments via a direct debit. This option attracts a fee of 5.4% of the instalment amount, which is added to the instalments. ACC1744 To get an instalment application pack, either call ACC on 0508 426 837 (self-employed) or 0800 222 776 (employers) or visit our website http://www.acc.co.nz/productslevies/forms/ The process: 45 days after invoice 30 days after invoice Your file is reviewed to look for possible reasons for the unpaid amount If no irregularities are found, we may contact you by phone to agree a suitable payment arrangement If we do not contact you or an arrangement is not reached we will write to you detailing the amount owed, the processes for payment, and a final due date 62 days after invoice If, after this final due date, the invoice has still not been paid, we may take further action, including a second review of your file Your invoice is referred to the ACC Debt Management Unit, and various legal enforcement options will be considered. Debt collection If the invoiced amount is not paid or a payment plan has not been arranged by the due date, we will begin the debt collection process. If you wish to dispute the invoiced amount, and cannot resolve the matter with ACC, you are entitled to ask for a review within three months of the invoice date.
