Personal and Collective Responsibility—Hotel Rwanda Reflection 1. What role did Tatiana Rusesabagina play in shaping Paul’s actions? His first and only priority at the start of the movie was to keep his wife and family safe. So his actions revolve around their safety and survival. 2. Who else influenced Paul’s decisions? The General and the Diplomat had heavy sway on his actions up until the end of the film. 3. How did Paul’s definition of family expand to include the community later on in the film? When the white people are evacuated from the hotel he sees just how bad the situation is, and begins to open his heart to the general community. 4. How and why does Paul’s attitude change over the course of the movie? He becomes more open towards the community but he also lets the claws come out and begins to assert his dominance over the general. 5. How would you characterize his level of personal responsibility and investment as events unfolded? He becomes much more invested in the issues at hand and also his depth of responsibilities greatly increases. 6. How does empathy play a role in Paul’s decision­making process? 7.
