Indiana Delta Alumni Newsletter October 2015 Giving Back This month was a busy month for our philanthropy chairmen. In October, we hosted a 5k color run with Delta Zeta to benefit the Starkey Hearing Foundation, and we also paired up with Alpha Phi for the 3rd annual Greek Open golf tournament that contributes to women’s heart health research. We had a good showing of Brothers at two other large philanthropies on campus: the Theta & Fiji Cook-off that supports Tippecanoe County’s CASA program as well as the Purdue Students Against Alzheimer’s “Score for a Cure” flag football tournament to fund Alzheimer’s research. We’re proud that our guys enjoy giving back to our community, and we aim to keep this high precedent for many more months to come! 1 Indiana Delta Alumni Newsletter October 2015 October Break For our October break, Indiana Delta makes it a tradition of having a good portion of the Chapter travel to the same location. This year was no different with our long Brotherhood weekend held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee amongst the beautiful Smokey Mountains! Over 60 Brothers made their way down to Gatlinburg and booked a couple massive luxury cabins that were complete with pools, hot tubs, game rooms, large bedrooms, and gorgeous views. While we were able to live like kings in the middle of the woods, a lot of the Brothers took the time to go out and explore the surrounding parks and attractions in the city, and even run into a few other Purdue students! Being in Tennessee in the middle of October made for some gorgeous scenery that made it hard to leave after 3 days, but the boys sure made their long weekend a worthwhile trip! Sunday Dinners with Chef Matt A new tradition has started at 1307 that’ll make your mouth water! One of our very own, Matt Arnieri (Gamma Zeta), has taken it upon himself to make dinner for the Brotherhood on Sunday nights at the Chapter house. For just a few bucks each week, the Brothers can come downstairs to get homemade classics like Chicken Parmesan with angel hair pasta and Chicken Vesuvio! Matt is no stranger to the kitchen though. Before he took on the Chapter’s culinary position, Matt had competed in (and won!) several national cooking competitions while in high school, so we’re getting spoiled with his talented cooking skills! He’s currently in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management where he wants to take his passion for cooking and open his own restaurant after he graduates. This is a tradition that not many other Chapters can say they have, and all our guys truly enjoy getting together again at the dinner table one last time before the school week starts. 2 Alumni Newsletter Indiana Delta October 2015 Fall Formal in Louisville This year’s formal was definitely the first of its kind for Indiana Delta: we went to the same location two years in a row and stayed for the entire weekend! The two-day formal was something we haven’t tried before, but it sure seems like the Brothers had a blast and are willing to try it again. Brothers could enjoy the bar scene on Friday night, and on Saturday, guys either explored the city, took whiskey tours at local distilleries, went on bar crawls with beerbikes, or just relaxed in the beautiful Galt House Hotel before getting ready for the formal festivities that night. With over 100 Brothers in attendance, we undoubtedly took over the city of Louisville for the weekend and had a great time doing it! We hope you enjoyed this month’s edition of our Alumni Newsletter! As always we encourage your feedback, so please pass along any comments or concerns to our current Corresponding Secretary, David Baratta, at dbaratta@purdue.edu so we can better suit your needs.
