Zach has one older brother named Alex. Zach graduated from River Hill High School in 2012. Zach is If you are interested in the Alumni Advisory Board then please contact Zachary Ambrose at zga7318@gmail.com. a current sophomore at UNCW who is trying to receive a double major in film and business. His reason for joining Lambda Chi Alpha was because “My RA introduced me to it, Greg [Cottingham, ΔΣ 191]. All the guys seemed really chill and diverse.” When asked what his most memorable moment was from his AM semester was he stated “during Pre-I, the event on the beach was memorable to me (Burning of the Faults).” Zach was then initiated as the 211th member of the Delta Sigma Zeta. During his time as a Lambda Chi Alpha, Zach’s favorite moments have been the “funny situations I’ve been in with other brothers and how we get out of them.” He is hoping to “get involved with film, advertising somehow, or maybe being a creative director for an advertising firm” once he graduates from UNCW. In his free time he would like to do independent films for film festivals. Joseph Read, ΔΣ 185, was recently wed to his fiancée Jennifer Gaskins. They were married on November 2nd, 2013 on Myrtle Beach. The brothers of Delta Sigma would like to wish the two of them a wonderful life together and prosperity. There was a sense of excitement that filled the gray sky on the 21st of September as people started to gather for the first annual Watermelon Bust held on the UNCW Gazebo Fields. All of the brothers of the Delta Sigma Chapter were ready to help run the first philanthropy event that would help establish a scholarship in memory of Hubert Simpson, a UNCW employee that everyone knew and dearly missed. Simpson worked at Wagoner Dining Hall and was in a very tragic accident that happened over the summer. Throughout the week, the brothers spent hours riding teeter totters in order to get people to come out and High Theta Despite having only been on campus for three years, the Delta Sigma Zeta has established a strong philanthropy arm at UNCW. During the 2012-13 school year and while still a colony, the men of Lambda Chi Alpha planned and executed their first ever bag drop and teeter-totterthon. Overall almost 1000 pounds of food was raised and donated smash some watermelons. With very little sleep, the gentlemen unloaded 110 watermelons to help run the event for the first time. There were 11 teams ready to make a mess of the Gazebo Fields with as many watermelons as possible. Team members competed in a watermelon toss, wheel barrel race, watermelon decorating contest, watermelon eating contest and even a relay race. Overall the entire event raised $1300 that has been given to UNCW for the Hubert Simpson Scholarship. Written by: Brother Valdes ΔΣ 228 to a local food pantry. For the Teeter-totter-thon, the colony won a state award for philanthropy. This fall, Delta Sigma Zeta’s first semester as a full chapter, the men once again executed a teeter-totter-thon; but also held their inaugural Watermelon Bust and raised approximately $1300 to go to a scholarship established in the honor of a beloved UNCW staff member. High Kappa Greetings brothers! The ΔΣ Zeta at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington has experienced many happenings within the High Kappa position. This fall semester of 2013, the Zeta welcomed 10 new Associate Members, nine on September 15th and one on September 22nd. With this new AM Class, the current High Kappa, Landon Simmons ΔΣ-197, has reformed the ΔΣ Zeta’s Fraternity Education curriculum. The new Fraternity Education Plan puts our core values into action through the Learning Model, information sessions about outside organizations on campus and in the community, a service project for the whole chapter. Along with changes in Fraternal Education, the Big Brother Program also received some improvements. A Big Brother was assigned to each Associate Member on September 29th according to the AM’s preferences. On October 5th, the chapter had its first Big Brother, Little Brother Retreat out at the High Kappa’s family farm. While semester is now over, our chapter looks forward the many experiences yet to come under the High Kappa office. High Delta The Delta Sigma Chapter has taken ritual seriously since its inception in the fall of 2010. We ended up putting on our first independent initiation during our 4th semester on campus, which was given the highest compliments from many of the visiting alumni from other chapters and compared to IRT. The brothers of the Lambda Chi Alpha, Delta Sigma chapter have developed since their re-entrance onto the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s campus. This year alone, exemplified why this is a fantastic group of gentleman. In April of 2013, the Delta Sigma colony had its inauguration into a chapter; even though this was a great occurrence, this year was more important than the chartering banquet. As a colony, Delta Sigma won numerous awards and recognitions that makes these brothers special: winning the Bradley cup (best fraternity on campus), two brothers elected to UNCW’s Students Government Association as President and Vice President, two other brothers elected to the Interfraternity Council as executive members, several philanthropy and scholarship awards—all being done as a colony. What is the secret to the success of this newly awarded chapter? One of the brothers For the Fall 2013 semester, Lambda Chi had a successful rush. Recruitment was a five day event this year with interviews done the fifth day. Of the plus 30 people to come we gave bids to 20. We ended up associating 10 AMs. We associated Ty Avery, Reese Walston, Stephen Tanner, High Phi stated, “We want to recruit gentleman who exemplify our seven core values; but, at the same time have room for development and change. We do not seek brothers with all seven core values perfected; furthermore, developing two or three of the lacking values is what truly creates brotherhood in all chapters.” Writer: ΔΣ 205 Jeff Costello Congratulations to some of our undergraduate brothers for the following accomplishments: Tim Quinn: Winner of the Mr. Greek contest Calvin Stone: #1 Colonial Division goalie, nominated for Bi-Annual European All-Star team Brendan Suther: Newly Initiated Member of ΟΔΚ and Order of Omega Christian Kalwa: Newly Initiated Member of Order of Omega Tyler Deitrick: Newly Initiated Member of Order of Omega Ryan McDonald: Newly Initated Member of Order of Omega One of our Alumni of the Delta Sigma Zeta, Robert Rideout, is being nominated for this years Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. From there he went on to serve as the District Attorney in Edgecombe County a reserve JAG officer for the US Army. Finally he was federally As every brother and alumni knows, the fraternity is only able to do the awesome things we do (such as Alumni Day and Watermelon Bust) because of fraternity dues and any support that the Alumni can give. In order to do this we are striving to build up a website so people can easily find us on the web. If you are interested in possibly helping us build our website then email us at our current High Rho or place a message on our Facebook alumni page. During the 2012/2013 school year, the Delta Sigma Zeta won the most prestigious award given to one fraternity and one sorority on UNCW's campus while we were still a colony.
