The first of these, service to the community and university, is a must. The old adage: “From him whom much is given, much is expected,” should be our driving force. We have been given much, and we need to redouble our efforts to pay back. I will focus on having Theta Chi Fraternity lead the way this year when it comes to community service hours. are using their time effectively to master material for their classes. Josh Adair is from Yokohama, Japan and a sophomore pursuing a major in Aeronautical Engineering The second value I’d like to improve upon is academic excellence. It is imperative that all brothers focus on honing their study habits. Our fraternity system provides, among other things, a phenomenal networking tool for opportunities down the road; however, these will not materialize unless backed up by sound academic achievement. I will set the bar high when it comes to ensuring that all brothers Thirdly, I believe we need to take a look at our rituals. Some of these have been discontinued or they are not taken seriously anymore. I want to see us get back to our roots more when it comes to honoring our traditions. camaraderie of the brotherhood improve – and I believe that the previous “goals” (articulated above) will assist in this area. Additionally, sponsoring more events outside our own house and with the other Greek houses should help to bring us all closer. I will make every attempt to have us more involved socially around campus as well. Admittedly, this is a very aggressive agenda to complete in less than year’s time, but I think the effort alone to see it come to fruition – “the journey,” if you will – will serve to make us all closer as a brotherhood, will benefit Theta Chi significantly, and will ultimately make us more successful in our endeavors after college. Lastly, my desire is to see the 4 Re-Amped Pledgeship More formal, Strict Way to Initiation This semester the pledge education of the new members of the Alpha Delta chapter was greatly improved. The semester began with five goals: have the pledge class GPA above a 3.0, make a stricter and more formal pledgeship, get the pledges involved on campus, have solid bonding within the pledge class and have the pledge class become close with the brothers as well, and show them how to be a model Brother for all to see. During their eight weeks, there was a quiz on every chapter in the manual to see if they had actually learned what they were taught. It worked. With the final exam having 53 question on all the material they all passed with above a 90%. PAGE 2 Assisting Hand Community Service a Priority This semester the Bothers of Alpha Delta have logged 924 hours of community service. During the beginning of March the Brothers of Alpha Delta Chapter assisted the Girl Scouts of America clearing a nature trial just outside of the Lafayette Area. In total, the brothers logged over 100 service hours at this community service event. This event is a relay that brings all different communities and organizations together to honor cancer survivors, remembers the lives of ones lost and to fight back against the disease. The money is given to the American Cancer Society to be used for research of every type of cancer and to provide information to cancer patients and their loved ones. This year, Alpha Delta raised $2, 452. The Brothers of Alpha Delta chapter also helped donate a couple hundred dollars worth of items to Weed and Seeds. The organization assists domestic anise victims and chronically homeless. The chapter will be receiving a letter of recognition from the local government as a thank you for the donations provided by Alpha Delta. My experience with Theta Chi has been unforgettable. Not only do I love being a part of our great fraternity, but I felt that way from the first rush event I went to. Showing up to rush felt different than any other house. The brothers actually wanted to talk with me, instead of just trying to fake a conversation and head out as quickly as possible. When I came back, brothers remembered my name and already made me feel welcome and wanted. It was so great to get close with not only my pledge class, but the entire house. Throughout pledgeship, I became a part of the house, and a part of the Brotherhood. Our Recruitment chairman and co-chair had the opportunity of attending this year's National Recruitment Boot Camp where they learned effective recruiting strategies and spent many hours writing our chapter's action plan for successful recruitment. There were five goals that structured our action plan for the recruitment season. The first was to implement a long term incentive plan to improve recruitment participation to 90 percent of in-house brothers. The second goal was to implement a team based plan that would challenge groups of brothers to get out there and recruit as many men as they could. The third goal of our action plan was to ensure the chapter knew exactly how to seek out potential new members and what exactly they should exemplify in order to become a new member. We created the acronym C.H.A.I.R.S to describe what an ideal recruit should be and have: Character, Health/wellness, Academics, Image/ poise, Responsible, and Social. This was our universal way of telling if a potential was worth extending a bid and if they possessed four of the five qualities, then they were worthy of receiving one. The fourth goal was to enhance the overall image and professionalism of the fraternity to better our reputation, brand, and brotherhood as a whole. The final step to our action plan was to continuously educate the chapter on the skills and tips needed for successful recruiting. This semester's pledge class has 14 new members that are results of a productive, successful recruitment season. Recruitment Boot Camp made it very apparent that once we actually have a plan for recruitment, it's foolproof and will practically run itself; it's just up to us to actually put the plan in action. Theta Chi's mission is to build better men that will uphold our legacy and I feel this year, Alpha Delta has found men that will do just that. Renovation Purdue University Dance Marathon A New Room with a Great Purpose The spring pledge class of 2013 came up with the idea to renovate the game room on the second floor. The master plan is to turn it into a theater room. The new theater room would include installing a projector and projector screen, full surround sound, stadium seating and repair and repaint the walls. Not only will this room serve the purpose as a place to watch movies or playing videos games but it will be a common area. This will be a place for Brothers to come, relax and enjoy each others company. Currently, there is no room in the house were Brothers can commonly meet. This room would improve the house over-all and be an asset in recruiting new members. New Member Referral If you know of a young man worthy of becoming a gentleman of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Theta Chi please do not hesitate to send us an email so that we may have the opportunity to get to know these men before recruitment Raising Money for the Kids PUDM in the past ten years has raised over $1,000,00 for the kids and families at Riley Hospital for Children. All donations go directly towards the Cancer Center and Camp Riley. Last year, the marathon raised $528,654.67 for the kids. PUDM’s goal this year is to raise $1,000,000. There is a competition between fraternities called the Greek Cup. One way to win is by winning the Greek wars. The goal is to raise more money for PUDM than the your opponent. To make a donation to the Alpha Delta chapter please go to www.helpmakemiraces.org, search Theta Chi in the search bar and click on the Theta Chi team to donate. Any contribution will help, and all donations are tax deductible. Of course, the goal is to raise all the money we can but its about celebrating the lives, hopes and love of the children and the families. Clubs, Organization, and More Alexander Fuller Alumni Relations Chair This semester the executive board of Alpha Delta has been encouraging brothers to get involved on campus.
