Career Centers.
Columbia’s City Council awarded Job Point
$35,000 to launch our Affordable Housing

Our United Way funding allocation equaled
$105,071. United Way dollars are utilized
to match a federal grant for job placement for
people with disabilities, operating expenses of
our Job Works program for individuals who are
chronically unemployed, and nationally recognized construction trades training for YouthBuild.
Job Point once again achieved Pacesetter status
in its internal United Way employee campaign.
Our Youthbuild program in Columbia was refunded by the U.S. Department of Labor. YouthBuild provides job training, leadership skills and
academic support for at-risk, low-income young
people ages 16-24, with an emphasis on high
school dropouts.
We embarked on our third annual campaign
and raised over $150,000 in private contributions.
In the spirit of community, Job Point staff organized teams for the 2007 Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon for the twelfth consecutive year,
volunteered with the Show Me State Games for
the eighth consecutive year and participated in
the Susan G. Komen Foundation “Passionately
Pink for the Cure” event in October for the second year in a row.
1/25/08 9:10:51 AM
Construction trades training was provided
for Sedalia youth through funding from the
Workforce Investment Act and in partnership with
the Workforce Development Board of Western
Missouri, Inc.
Job Point was awarded $122,655 in
Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP)
tax credits from the Missouri Department of
Economic Development to provide employment
services for chronically unemployed adults over
a three year period.
Job Point East hosted its first Business Fair in
Wright City. The job fair was open to the public
and was well attended by both employers and
job seekers.
Ricky Acton, Employed at City of Columbia Recycling Center
As a reciprocal community partner, Job Point’s
headquarters were utilized as the Control Center
for the annual Multiple Sclerosis (MS) 150 bike
fundraiser and staff represented the organization
at the Twilight Festival in downtown Columbia
and at the Columbia Housing Authority’s Annual
Fall Festival.
Hosted by Fred DeMarco, Comedy Night
2007 was a huge success with over $11,000
raised for Job Point. Joe Machens Ford was
the premier sponsor, with additional sponsors of
Déjà Vu, First National Bank & Trust Company,
Horton Animal Hospitals, The Insurance Group,
Inc., MBS Textbook Exchange, Inc., MFA Oil
Company and Smith Lewis, LLP.
Job Point received the highest level of
accreditation (3 years) as a result of our review
by CARF, an international accrediting body for
rehabilitation facilities.
JP_AR_07_d3.indd 4
Through a contract with Missouri Department
of Corrections, Job Point offered employment
services for persons with a legal occurrence at
the Re-Entry Opportunity Center (ROC). The ROC
is new in Columbia and focused on addressing
the educational, training and employment needs
of individuals on probation or parole.
Job Point’s Carrollton office, a satellite Missouri
Career Center, was designated as an official
access site for the Missouri Share Network,
a statewide Internet database of workforce
development partners, faith-based organizations,
community organizations, businesses and
government agencies.
As a Partner in Education (PIE) with Douglass
High School, Job Point participated in the
school’s PIE annual kick off and provided job
interview training and practice with graduating
seniors.
Ben Falby, Construction Instructor, and Trisha
Weseloh, Senior Vocational Evaluator, were
honored as 2007 Employees of the Year
