Course Description: Acquisition, transformation, and distribution of goods and services within the global
supply chain; covers concepts, tools, and strategies to design and manage operations, such as strategic
implications, performance measurement, process management, sourcing, operations design, quality, inventory,
logistics, enabling information systems and technology, and global issues among other topics.
Course Objectives: This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the strategic
importance of effective operations management practices in the global supply chain environment and to
familiarize them with the key concepts, principles, and techniques involved in the design and management of
high performance operations.
Required Text and Website: Operations Management: Processes and Supply Chains 10th. Edition (2013)
by Krajewski, Ritzman, and Malhotra, Pearson Prentice Hall and MyOMLab.
Additional Readings: Additional readings may be required. Students are responsible for completing the
readings as they will be included in exams.
Course Requirements: There will be assignments, a group term project and two exams. It is expected that
assignment and examination responses will be individual efforts. The University of Memphis Code of Ethics
will serve as a basis of reference.
Grading: The final course grade is based on the total points received in each of the following categories:

Assignments/Participation will include MyOMLab Problem Sets, online discussion addressing text cases,
video cases and current events articles, and a course feedback survey. Late assignments may be accepted
under certain circumstances, but will receive a grade penalty.
Exams: There will be two exams. Exams may include a combination of objective questions, essays,
quantitative problems and cases. Exams will be administered using MyOMLab and eCourseware. Exams are
open book and open notes. Exam 2 is not comprehensive.
Course Management and Communication: eCourseware is used for course management. Course materials
including assignments, PowerPoint slides, lectures, and grades will be posted throughout the semester. All
assignments are to be submitted through the appropriate eCourseware “Dropbox.” Course announcements will
be made in the “News” section of the course eCourseware website. Please check the eCourseware site on a
regular basis for announcements. Course-related emails will be sent to your University of Memphis email
account.
