Speaking at the Cyber Defenders Discovery Camp on Thursday, Mr Wong said the threats are manifested in many forms - from phishing to advanced persistent threats with the intent to steal users' private data. On a bigger scale, he noted that large-scale cyber attacks have affected entire nations, like in Estonia which had its banks and ministries affected in 2007. He added there's also growing concern that terror groups are increasingly cyber-savvy, using the Internet not just for propaganda and recruitment but also to conduct operations. Mr Wong highlighted several measures Singapore has taken to address these threats. Among them is the setting up of a National Cyber Security Centre to boost the nation's capabilities to counter security threats. The Defence Ministry is also working with the Singapore University of Technology and Design to set up a centre to do research on trustworthy computing (iTRUST). The Cyber Defenders Discovery Camp is another MINDEF initiative to generate greater interest and awareness in cyber defence. - CNA/cc Copyright © 2012 MediaCorp Pte Ltd << back to channelnewsasia.com http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/print/1206206/1/.html 08/06/2012
