Risk Management & Cyber Security

This talk is about a risk management model developed at the Los Alamos National
Laboratory and then by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE).
Exxon-Mobil adopted this AICHE model as part of the Operations Integrity
Management System. The Safeguards and Security Qualitative Risk Assessment
(SSQRA) methodology has been endorsed by Department of Homeland Security
for critical infrastructure security and mirror methodologies, which are used ( to
mention just few) by American Petroleum Institute, American Chemical Consul ,
and Sandia National Laboratory. This model is the US Department of Energy best
practice for conduct of cyber security risk assessments (also mirrors NRC best
practice). The talk will be illustrated by war time events and vignettes of the
Secret Service, critical situations at the US Department of Treasury, and Exxon
operation.
