Pre-AP English II Summer Reading List 2015-16 To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Night by Elie Wiesel Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (This is one story in a trilogy; you are only required to read Oedipus Rex; also known as Oedipus the King) King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green (ISBN 0-14-036670-9) Selections from The Bible (King James version recommended). See attached list of specific books and verses. Each of these selections represents a specific genre and is applicable to this class because of its value as a reference or as a literary study. Testing Tips: Each selection will have a character matching section. Tests over the novels primarily deal with plot line questions rather than interpretation. Any student Bible may be read to learn and understand the stories (and it’s probably a good idea to read one); however, the language in the King James version is especially valuable for students who will be reading Shakespearean literature. Cliff’s Notes and Sparknotes.com are valuable study guides and can aid in understanding the material; however, aids like this should not be used in lieu of reading the novels. Choosing not to read should be considered a conscious decision to do poorly in the class. Testing will begin the first week of classes, so students should be prepared. Enjoy your summer!
