As students grow older, they receive more responsibilities, giving them less free time as shown in the Youth Asset
Survey. Only 44% of our city’s youth feel that the community values young people.
36% of high school and middle school students spend 3 or more nights a week involved in extra curricular
activities and two thirds spend 3-11 hours playing sports a week on average.*
Since student’s time is taken up with their homework and activities, it leaves them with less time to spend with their
family, as shown when nearly half of high school students eat dinner together as a family less than five
times a week.* In addition, only 48% of youth report having positive communication with their families.

6 week sessions
Session 1 Sept 27-Oct 25
Session 2 Jan 10-Feb 14
Do you wonder how your child will make the transition to
preschool? Is it difficult for either you or your child to
separate from each other? Does your child need help
transitioning from one activity to another? Has your child
had the experience of being in a structured group with a
clearly defined routine?
This structured 1 1/2 hour playgroup will help prepare you
and your child for the transition to preschool!
The playgroup will be led by early childhood specialist
and music therapist, Susan Levine, who utilizes music
and movement in her playgroup activities. Kathleen
Shaw, developmental specialist, will assist and share her
expertise in creating children’s art and sensory opportunities. Playgroup will consist of free exploration, circle
time, snack time and an art/sensory time.
While your child is participating in the playgroup, you will
meet separately with child and family counselor, Erin
Cashman, for coffee chat and presentations. Topics
include: child development, self care skills (feeding,
sleeping and toileting), positive parenting and activities
that will enrich children and families' lives. Lively interaction between facilitator and participants will be sparked
by TV/movie clips and parent education DVD viewing.

Ages 7+

QuickStart Tennis is an exciting play format for learning
tennis. It follows the same logic as other youth sports
like baseball or soccer, which use kid-sized courts and
kid-sized equipment. Now with QuickStart Tennis, balls
bounce lower, don't move as fast through the air and are
easier to hit. Racquets are sized for small hands and
courts are smaller and easier to cover. By using this
format, the benefits are immediate and within a short
time kids are rallying, playing, and excited to keep playing. They're playing real tennis and having real fun—and
that’s what is most important.
An amazing opportunity for some one-on-one tennis instruction for your child. Can't hit that serve? Back hand
getting you? Want to master the drop shot? Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for specialized
coaching. Perfect for players of all levels.

What is Parkour?
Parkour was born in the banlieues (suburbs) of Paris in the 1980s and is now one
of the world’s fastest-growing sports. While often recognized in the fantastic
images seen on YouTube or television, the sport is actually a form of movement
that has roots in a wide variety of physical disciplines including gymnastics, martial
arts, climbing, and track & field. Practitioners, known as traceurs, train to develop
strength, speed, endurance, precision, spatial awareness, dynamism, and
creativity, in order to be as fluid, functional and liberated as possible in physical
movement and to overcome physical obstacles. Traceurs also develop a way
of thinking based on rigorous self-discipline, autonomous action and self-will that
allows them to overcome mental obstacles related to their movements.
