UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, FAISALABAD
The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) emerged as a result of up-gradation of the Punjab Agriculture College and Research
Institute (PACRI) in 1961. Since its inception, existing teaching and research facilities have expanded manifolds to cater the scientific needs and market potential with special reference to agriculture based programs. The University campus is a lush green site covered over an area of 1950 acres with a unique amalgam of glorious past with reminiscent of the traditional architecture and monolithic blocks built in the modern style.
The UAF has been ranked 85 th best University worldwide as per QS ranking of universities (agriculture and forestry) whilst, 20 th in Asia-
Pacific for Agricultural Sciences according to the National Taiwan
University ranking. Moreover, U.I. Green Metric World University ranking has declared UAF 25 th best university in the entire world.
Likewise, UAF stood first among degree awarding institutions according to PCST. The alma mater also secured 2 nd position as per
Higher Education Commission’s ranking for the Pakistani universities.
FACULTY OF FOOD, NUTRITION AND HOME SCIENCES
The Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences (FFNHS) was initially established as Food Technology Section in the Punjab
Agriculture College and Research Institute and attained the status of
Department of Food Technology in 1962. In accordance with the importance of food sector in Pakistan, it was upgraded to the Institute of
Food Science and Technology in 2003 and to the National Institute of
Food Science and Technology in 2007. Realizing the vitality and potential of food and nutrition, Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home
Sciences emerged in late 2014. Currently FFNHS is mainly comprised of National Institute of Food Science and Technology and
Institute of Home Sciences. The faculty is offering some promising degree programs leading to Food Technology, Human Nutrition and
Dietetics, Food Science and Nutrition, Food Safety and Quality
Management, Food Services Management, Dairy Technology and
Home Economics. Besides, FFNHS holds strong collaboration with both public and private sector at national and international level
OVERVIEW
Milk and milk products have demonstrated various physiological and functional roles in human body. Pakistan is among the top five milk producing countries in the world with about 50 MT/annum production alongside ranked 2 nd in global buffalo milk production.
Nevertheless, dairy industry is facing serious crisis at processing & production that influence milk yield, quality and value addition. There is a dire need to address these challenges, identifying root causes and working on sustainable solutions to boost this field.
CHEESE & EXOTIC FOOD FESTIVAL
In continuation to previously held Cheese Festival in February, 2011 as a collaborative initiative between NIFSAT-UAF and Embassy of
France to Pakistan, Cheese & Exotic Food Festival is also planned on the sideline of the conference. In this context, the Ambassador of
France to Pakistan is expected to inaugurate this festival on 26 th
November, 2015. Cheese is a group of fermented milk-based product, available in a wide range of flavors and forms throughout the world. It is rightly said that there is a cheese for every taste preference and a taste preference for every cheese. Cheese has traditionally been a part of Pakistani cuisine; in particular unprocessed cheese (paneer) is the main type of cheese being used by village population. Over the period, due to growing influence of western food habits, there is an increasing demand for several varieties of cheese, such as cheddar, mozzarella and processed cheese slices in Pakistan. Moreover, a variety of native and foreign exotic foods are also gaining immense popularity owing to their luxurious profile. Keeping in view, the growing importance of cheeses and exotic foods in the country, the present event is organized under the kind patronage of the Embassy of France along with French experts providing an opportunity to get awareness about various varieties of French cheese as well as exotic foods from the world.
Furthermore, it will also encourage local processors and provide platform to exchange their personal experiences with International experts. The participants will also have the opportunity to taste a variety of French and local cheese as well as exotic foods.
CONFERENCE
Dairy industry is an important part of Pakistan’s economy, contributing about 11.5% in the national GDP i.e.
about 55.1% of the agriculture value added. The international conference on
“Opportunities and Challenges in Dairy Industry” will provide chance to dairy sector stakeholders to discuss emerging issues from milking to marketing and tailor the problem solving strategies.
Moreover, participation of eminent scientists in the conference will be a leap forward towards building and strengthening long lasting scientific and technological collaboration between the two nations. In this mega event, there will be a handsome representation of academician, local industry and entrepreneurs. They will be able to negotiate on current scenario and future challenges to dairy industry and share their technical expertise for the development of strong futuristic plans.
