Bowling Green State University
Bachelor of Science
Major in Biology
This baccalaureate degree program is
designed to provide training in the major
areas of biology while allowing sufficient
flexibility to accommodate the specific
interests of individual students. All majors
are required to take the biology core which
includes genetics. The degree program
requires a student to take at least one
course in each of three major areas:
Biology of Organisms; Ecology, Evolution
and Behavior; Cell, Molecular and
Regulatory Biology. Additional courses
allow the student to be exposed to the
broad spectrum of biology through an
array of advanced courses. The degree
program, with some modifications, also
allows students to meet the course
requirements for pre-professional (medical,
dental, veterinary) graduate study.
The program is based on a cohort model,
where students follow a set of courses
beginning in year one and progress
through the program together.
Approximately three-fourths of the courses
are LCCC courses with the remaining hours
being offered by BGSU. Students need a
minimum of 30 semester hours of BGSU
courses to graduate, most at the 3000 and
4000 levels, primarily in the sciences.
Admission Requirements
Students who plan to enter the cohort
must indicate their intent by completing an
LCCC/BGSU application, available in the
LCCC University Partnership Office.
Students must apply for admission to
Bowling Green State University at
http://choose.bgsu.edu/apply/online/?main
prior to the start of the second semester of
year one of the cohort model. The cost for
application is $40.
Students applying to BGSU must be in
good standing, with at least a 2.5 or higher
cumulative grade point average on a 4.0
scale. Students with GPAs of 2.0-2.5 may
be considered through the appeal process.
Students who wish to take courses
sponsored through BGSU and who do not
wish to seek the Bachelor’s Degree in
Biology need to complete a pre-registration
form and a BGSU Undergraduate Guest
Application form will be mailed to them.
The pre-registration form may be obtained
from the LCCC University Partnership
office.
