Warren Luckner received the 2010 UNL Student Foundation/ Builder’s Award for Outstanding Academic Advising. Deb Cosgrove and Carlos Asarta were honored by the Alpha Xi Delta sorority as Outstanding Faculty. Les Carlson received two awards at the American Academy of Advertising Annual Conference in Minneapolis, MN. Carlson took away the Kim Rotzoll Award for Advertising Ethics and Social Responsibility along with a Best Reviewer Award for the Journal of Advertising. Carol Rogers was honored with a “Project Award,” a community award, a from the Great Plains Trails Network for her work with the Market-to-Market Relay. Contact IT Services for more information NEWS Arthur Allen’s article, co-authored with Angela Woodland, “Education Requirements, Audit Fees, and Audit Quality,” has been accepted for publication in Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory. The Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship in partnership with the Southeast Community College Entrepreneurship Center and the Entrepreneurship Focus Program High School were the hosts for the 1st Annual Make it Happen -- Student Quick Pitch Competition held on February 25th, 2010. The competition gave Nebraska students an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial, communication, and presentation skills through a short “quick pitch” proposal for a new business venture. A total of over 200 judges, students, and interested community members attended the event. 5 CBA students represented the College of Business Administration at the 2010 US Naval Academy Leadership Conference. The conference theme was “Leadership Under Stress: Transforming Crises into Opportunities” and included speakers, Mr. Tom Brokaw, NBC News Special Correspondent; Mr. William W. George, Professor of Management Practice, Harvard Business School and former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, Inc., among others. Students selected to represent CBA at the conference were Katie Bauer, Allison Bentley, Ben Boeselager, Lindsey Dykman, Reed Janousek. Warren Luckner and 11 actuarial science students traveled to Drake University for a joint meeting with the Drake Actuarial Student Society in March. The students heard Jeff Kucera, Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and actuarial consultant, give a presentation on Predictive Modeling, a new approach to casualty actuarial work. Over 800 students competed in a preliminary online competition. The top 10 teams in two divisions were then invited to compete for the top spot at the state finals.
