Conference
Six students in Janice Lawrence’s Fraud Examination class sat for
and passed the CFE exam (Certified Fraud Examiners) in the
spring semester. Her students have a 100% pass rate on their first
attempt.
Peter Harms won an award to present his research on the link
between emotional intelligence and effective leadership at
the Symposium on Leadership and Individual Differences
in Lausanne, Switzerland. An article on this research will be
published in the next issue of the Journal of Leadership and
Organizational Studies.
Gwendolyn Combs has been elected Program Chair Elect for the
Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division of the Academy
of Management. This begins her progression to position of
Division Chair in 2013.
Seth Giertz was elected National Tax Journal’s “Referee-of-the-Year
Award” for 2009.
Warren Luckner was elected to a two-year term on the governing
council of the new Social Insurance and Public Finance Society of
Actuaries Special Interest Section.
Keng Siau’s publication entitled “Identifying Difficulties in Learning
UML” (VOL. 23, Issue 3, pp.43-51) is the most cited article
published in the Information Systems Management journal from
2006-2007. The Information Systems Management has a 2008
Impact Factor of 1.242. Siau is also serving as the Editor-in-Chief
of the Journal of Database management which receives an Impact
Factor of 2.0 in 2008 and is ranked as one of the top journals in
the MIS area.
The Nebraska Council on Economic Education has received several
grants that will support K-12 educational activities throughout
Nebraska. Two grants totaling more than $43,000 were received
through the nationally competitive Excellence in Economic
Education sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and
administered by the Council for Economic Education.

New Digital Signage System
The College is in the process of installing a digital signage system
throughout the building. This new system will be available to all
departments, programs and student groups to post announcements.
Check out the functioning digital messaging boards currently in
front of rooms 119 and 138. *Be sure to attend the informational
session to gain information on how to post announcements and
news on October 14 at 2:30pm hosted by ITS.
Interdisciplinary Conference on Human Trafficking

Gwendolyn Combs presented the paper, “Racial Differences in
Job Attributes Preferences: The Influence of Ethnic Identity
and Psychological Capital”, at the Academy of Management
2009 Conference in Chicago. Co-authored with Jakari Griffith.
Combs’ case, “Religious Discrimination and Racial Harassment:
What Ever Happened to MarShwan Demur?”, was showcased by
the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at the
Academy of Management 2009 meeting in Chicago.
Emre Unlu has two recently accepted papers: “Executive
Compensation and the Maturity Structure of Corporate Debt:,
with Paul Brockman and Xiumin Martin, Forthcoming in the
Journal of Finance and “The More, the Merrier: The Frequency of
Dividend Payment”, with Stephen Ferris and Gregory Noronha,
forthcoming in the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting.
Keng Siau and Fiona Nah have a forthcoming publication entitled
“Understanding the Values of Mobile Technology in Education: A
Value-Focused Thinking Approach” in DATABASE for Advances
in Information Systems.
Arthur Allen’s and Donna Dudney’s publication “Does the Quality
of Financial Advice Affect Prices?” was accepted in The Financial
Review.
Yijia Lin’s paper: “Mortality Risk Modeling: Applications to
Insurance Securitization” coauthored with Sam Cox and
Hal Petersen has been accepted for publication in Insurance:
Mathematics and Economics.
Ravi Sohi and Marketing Ph.D. alum, Avinash Malshe, had the
lead article in the latest issue of the Journal of Personal Selling
and Sales Management. The article is titled “Sales Buy-In of
Marketing Strategies: Exploration of its Nuances, Antecedents and
Contextual Conditions.
