Department Manager, Structures – Orlando, Florida POSITION DESCRIPTION Provides individual and technical supervision to the Structures team using expertise and experience with complex technical activities, provides guidance on unconventional or complex programs, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches to assignments with conflicting criteria. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to): • Manages the design and analysis of load-bearing structures or structural elements related to development and transportation projects. • Oversees site investigations and inspections and provides suggestions for structural engineering projects to ensure that standards and requirements are met. • Ensures the accuracy of technical documentations such as blueprints, specifications, and reports. • Develops blueprints or specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable building codes and safety regulations. • Communicates directly with clients, contractors, and designers concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling. • Prepares project status reports, plans, specifications, and engineer estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data. • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver on time. • Seeks out new clients and projects to pursue and assists with the marketing efforts of these projects. • Manages the workload of the Structures Design Department and recommends staffing needs to upper management. • Assists in the hiring process of the Structural Department by assisting in the preparation of job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for hire. • Preparation of project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules. • Oversees the preparation of proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation. • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with focus on Structures • 10 years or more years of formal training and experience in structural engineering with at least five (5) years as a Technical Team Leader. • Must have experience as a group leader or project engineer on complex, multi-discipline engineering design or projects. • Sufficient knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT in order to manage work of staff using these computer software products. • Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word. • Knowledge of MS PowerPoint and MS Project a plus. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS • Must have proven track record of accomplishments as lead design engineer on structural projects and be capable of supervising and directing a team of engineers, designers, and support personnel. • Advanced knowledge of structural and civil foundation engineering and design and be familiar with applicable Codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices. • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients. • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision. • Ability to maintain confidentially and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately. • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high volume office environment under pressure of heavy deadlines. • Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
