The Strathclyde MBA in Malaysia The Strathclyde MBA has been available outside the UK since 1988. Over 2000 course participants have now graduated, and over 1500 students are currently studying the programme in their own country. This success is due to the unique delivery structure developed with the local partner, incorporating elements of full-time, part-time and open-learning modes of study. ‘ The Strathclyde MBA is one of the top business schools for strategy and overall it was a wonderful and very meaningful experience. The subjects that are taught help students to analyse more critically both external environments and internal capabilities for strategy. It requires us to view the things that affect an organisation from different and various viewpoints. One advantage of the Strathclyde MBA is it allows students to complete most assignments, and even their thesis or project, either as an individual or as a group. As students come from different backgrounds and industries, and from both Malaysian and multinational companies, our opinions and approaches are different and we all learn from these various viewpoints.’ Atsushi Ikarashi MBA 2012 How does the partnership work? The Strathclyde MBA The structure and content of the Strathclyde MBA are fully explained in the main MBA brochure. The following sections show how you can undertake the programme in Malaysia. How you can study for the MBA The Strathclyde MBA in Malaysia incorporates a flexible style of delivery – full-time, parttime and open-learning elements in a 180 credit format. Many participants continue to work while taking the course over two years. This makes our programme a viable and valuable alternative for you and your company since it combines the benefits of learning with immediate practical application to your working environment. Part-time study consists of a variety of learning methods: • Face-to-face teaching by Strathclyde University staff in Malaysia • Regular local counselling support at CDC Management Development (M) Sdn Bhd • Home/private study with specially prepared core learning materials • Assignments and examinations set, marked and validated by Strathclyde University staff How does the programme work? The study route to your part-time MBA is flexible with most participants taking between two to two and a half years to complete. Each year is divided into two semesters starting in October and April. Students are provided with a range of text books, course workbooks, core learning materials, and online access to the Strathclyde University library along with physical and online access to the CDC libraries. In terms of teaching, for each subject students attend a two day intensive seminar delivered by academics from Strathclyde University and scheduled over weekends. These seminars are mainly based around the core learning elements of each subject but also contextualised to cover the business environment specific to the region. Additionally, throughout the programme, students attend a range of workshops and simulations to enhance and develop their managerial skills and competencies. Supporting all of this, participants attend weekly (evening and/or weekend) counselling (tutorial) sessions delivered by locally appointed counsellors. The intensive seminars, workshops and counselling sessions ensure that all MBA students have the same learning experience and reach the same standards as participants attending the MBA programme in the UK. Students enrolled on the programme can attend the intensive seminars, workshop and counsellling sessions in either Malaysia or at any of the other international centres. How is the course assessed? The course is assessed by a combination of written coursework, in-class presentations and examinations. As far as possible, coursework will be related to your work environment and the examinations are scheduled twice a year prior to the end of each semester. The examinations and assignments are set, marked and validated by the University of Strathclyde academic staff, and are identical to and assessed on the same basis as students undertaking the programme in the UK. Thus the MBA programme offered in Malaysia is the same as the full-time mode in the UK in all aspects except delivery.
