Lodz University of Technology How does the workload in your classes compare to Strathclyde. the same Is there anything that you wished that you knew about the classes before you went? they teach in a different way here, a more find it out for yourself way rather than being given everything on a plate. What type of accommodation are you staying in whilst away? student housing (by host university) What is your monthly cost for accommodation? €75, there are no missing numbers it's really €75 Do you have any advice about how looking for accommodation? Is there anything you wished you knew before you left about accommodation? If you are not too bothered about living conditions then go for the dorms. It's great socially as well. You might need to share a bedroom it's totally down to luck. Trying to find a flat in Lodz before you arrive will be greatly difficult. There is no contract so you can move from the dorms at any time if you are unhappy! What is the town/city like where you stay? It is very different from other cities in Poland there is not nearly as much going on, basically nobody speaks english outside of university but there is lots to do if you look closely, it's in a great position for travelling Where is your favourite place to go? OFF piotrkowska How do you find the university facilities (for example, library, labs, campus)? not quite on par with strathclyde ive never used the library, there aren't many computer labs that are available at any time. The buildings and lecture rooms are new and nice inside. The campus itself is lovely especially in autumn but my contact with my supervisor and the help that the staff have given me has been brilliant. Do you spend more or less money than you expected? Less Are you surprised by the high cost of anything in particular(for example, taxis, cheese, bread, wine)? NOPE How much money do you estimate you spend per month (any currency is ok)? €700 including travelling but i think with better budgeting this can be wayyy lower Do you have a good social life? Does the host University offer any particular activities for international students? The ESN-EYE committee here is amazing there is always something on with something for everyone although I'm usually doing homework Would you recommend this University to future Strathclyde students who are considering studying abroad YES i have to say the university are very happy to have a scottish student and they will do their best to cater for you and make you feel welcome Are you glad you decided to participate in an Erasmus Exchange? Please explain your answer. Absolutely. I think academically it would have been advantageous for me to stay at strathclyde. But of course the people you meet and the things you do on erasmus is a unique opportunity. Living in Poland gears you up for life and makes you grow a pair! (i really can't think of any other way to word it) Is there any additional information/advice you would like to pass on to future students who are considering study abroad at the same institution as you? Moving to Poland is a challenge especially to a city that is really quite raw Poland. The cultural differences are more than you might expect. Try and learn all the Polish you can before you go although it's difficult to out of the situation. But if you are up for a challenge and going out from your comfort zone this is the place to go! Poland is an awesome country with a lot to offer and to learn from and will be an adventure. Bring warm clothes!
