LUBBOCK Lights The Annual Scholarship Benefit Gala for Wayland Baptist University A Legacy of Light Honoring our First Responders W ayland Baptist University will honor our law enforcement and fire department graduates who are members of the Lubbock Police Department, the Lubbock Fire Department, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department, and the Texas Tech University Police Department, as well as n Tuesday, April 24, 2012 n Overton Hotel and Conference Center those from other area communities. In addition, area emergency and medical personnel are invited to participate. Our goal is to net $30,000 for an endowed scholarship to be established in honor of our graduates in these agencies. n 6 p.m. Silent Auction begins, 7 p.m. Program n Proceeds benefit scholarships in honor of Lubbock-Area First Responders Guest speaker for the event will be Capt. Al Fuentes (Ret.) of the New York City fire department. Fuentes is a 9/11 survivor who became trapped beneath a steel girder while leading n Tickets: $125 per person a contingent of fireboats on a mission to carry survivors away n Featuring dinner piano music by special from the burning World Trade Center. Despite life-threatening guest musician Wayne McNeil, MD injuries, the captain was able to radio his position to comrades n A tribute to First Responders who came and rescued him. Fuentes lay in a coma for weeks before regaining consciousness.
