Coming Next to the downstage series
THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a contemporary song-cycle musical
that ingeniously chronicles the
five year life of a marriage, from
meeting to break-up... or from
break-up to meeting, depending
on how you look at it. Written
by Jason Robert Brown
(PARADE, SONGS FOR A NEW
WORLD), THE LAST FIVE
YEARS is an intensely personal
look at the relationship between
a writer and an actress told from
both points of view.

Our passion is to bring the Master Playwright’s legacy to a new generation in a
way that is both fresh and entertaining. We seek to debunk the myth that
Shakespeare and other forms of classic theatre are irrelevant to the modern
audience. Stolen Shakespeare Guild is committed to bringing the works of William Shakespeare, along with other distinguished playwrights, to new life in
the twenty-first century.

Full Moon Island by Terry Yates
Twenty-two people are left behind on a military island with a
hurricane bearing down on them. Battling the elements will be
hard enough, but when a stranger joins them with no memory of
his name or the curse that he carries, a hurricane is the least of
their worries.

Director’s Notes
What is your click? This is the question that I want you to answer. What do you need more
of in your life in order to finally feel at peace. What gives you the most inner peace? Is it
love? Is it respect? Is it money? I know. It's a tough question. Sure, you can spout out a
quick, transparent answer, but everyone will know that it's just the tip of the iceberg; that
there are far more complexities underneath, veiled in a sort of politeness. Such is the way
with "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
This has been an interesting process for me. Most of the shows I've directed, I've seen
something from; whether it be the movie, or even YouTube clips (believe me, I already
know what your thinking: How could you not see the Elizabeth Taylor/Paul Newman version?! It's a classic!) Cat, however, I have zero experience until this production. Sure, I'd had
read the script, but that's my interpretation versus everyone else, which makes it kind of
relieving. I was told of some elements that were "iconic," that you probably won't see. So,
if you came into this show waiting for an "iconic" Cat moment, you might be disappointed.
However, if you came into this show wanting a truthful, raw version of Cat...well then,
have I got the show for you.
I should also say that I could not have done this without the help of my designers, stage
managers, assistant director and cast, who have all wanted to just sit back and create with
me, and moreover, push creativity in different directions. I don't know why such talented
people continue to work with me, but ...I can't complain. A giant thanks to Kristy
Scroggins. She may only look like a name in this program, but she is a life-saver when it
comes to theater. Now, I've rambled on too much, so...sit back, and enjoy!

About the play
The sensuality and excitement of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof first heated up Broadway in
1955 with its Gothic American story of two brothers, and their wives, vying for the
inheritance of their dying father, Big Daddy, amid a whirlwind of sexuality untethered
(in the person of Maggie the Cat), and the burden of love repressed (in the person of
her husband, Brick Pollitt). Williams, as he so often did with his plays, rewrote Cat On
A Hot Tin Roof for many years - this version we are presenting was prepared by Williams for the American Shakespeare Festival production in 1974, with all the changes
that satisfied the playwright's desire for a definitive text.
