DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia invites
applications for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position with a research (75%)
and instruction (25%) appointment in Poultry Processing. This position may be
filled at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor as the
qualifications of candidates dictate. The individual selected will be expected to
develop a contemporary research program in poultry meat processing that will be
supported by extramural funding. Potential research foci could include, but are
not limited to, processing methods and equipment, poultry product quality, food
safety, and muscle biology. Teaching responsibilities may include departmental
undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory poultry science, poultry
processing, processing technology, food safety and other related areas. The
successful applicant will also be expected to develop a strong graduate training
program. Additional duties include undergraduate and graduate advisement,
student recruitment, and service to the poultry industry. The University of
Georgia is a preeminent Land Grant university with excellent opportunities for
collaboration with faculty that have diverse research interests. The Department of
Poultry Science has a pilot-scale poultry processing facility that includes
slaughter, evisceration, further processing, cooking and packaging equipment and
is considered to be one of the finest such research facilities of its kind.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. with a background in poultry meat processing,
muscle biology, food engineering or a related field. An understanding of current
poultry processing issues and hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP)
systems is expected. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of extramural
grant success and teaching excellence.
SALARY:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
