The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) invites applicants for the position of Department of Poultry Science Head. This position is a senior level administrative position to provide leadership for poultry science, production and processing. http://www.poultry.uga.edu. The Department of Poultry Science is part of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. Its headquarters are on the Athens Campus, although faculty are also located in Tifton, Georgia. Its state-of-the-art laboratory and grow out and processing facilities enable faculty to conduct cutting-edge research in poultry production that benefits both the industry and the consumer. Through its programs, strong collaborative ties have been developed with the poultry science programs at the USDA Russell Research Center, and other research groups on the Athens campus of The University of Georgia. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide day to day and long-term leadership for the Department. Provide direction to faculty, staff and students to achieve the goals of the Department. Support and coordinate the teaching, research and extension missions of the Department. The Department head is expected to work to increase external funding opportunities for faculty. The department head is also expected to facilitate research collaboration between Department faculty and federal and state agencies. Lead efforts to increase gifts and endowments to support the Department’s work. Facilitate a strong working relationship with industry leaders on issues important to the industry. Serve as a spokesperson for contemporary issues in the poultry industry. Qualifications: A PhD in a relevant field of agriculture and at least 10 years research, academic and/or administrative experience is required. The successful candidate must have technical and interpersonal skills to communicate with other scientists and administrators nationally and internationally. Experience in oral presentations, writing reports, proposals and technical publications is required. Familiarity with state and federal organizations, and universities and the ability to attract extramural funding from grant agencies and industry is expected. The candidate must be capable of national and international travel. Salary and benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
