Department and Instructors Course Policies:
1.
Class Participation and Attendance: A successful learning experience is based on students commitment
and participation. Therefore, students are expected to attend class regularly and participate in all class
discussion. Also, it is impossible to participate in class discussion if the student is absent, so attendance is
required. Quality of class participation will carry more weight than quantity. EXCESSIVE ABSENCES
WILL RESULT IN LOWER COURSE GRADES. If absences are excessive, but medically excused, a
student will receive an "I" or "W" depending on the circumstances. Tardiness constitutes an absence.
More than 2 absences will be considered excessive. It is the students responsibility to sign in on
attendance sheet for each class. Each unexcused absence results in a 7 point deduction from the final
grade.
2.
Handouts: Handouts will be provided frequently throughout the semester. It is the responsibility of
students to secure these materials from the instructor. The instructor will not be responsible for providing
materials to students who have missed class.

Quizzes - Quizzes will be given at least two times during the semesters to ensure that reading assignments
are completed on time and that students pay attention to lectures and discussion. Quizzes will not be
repeated. Students absent when quizzes are called for will not be allowed to take the quiz. Missed quizzes
result in a "O" for the quiz.
Late Policy - There is no valid excuse for turning in assignments late. All assignments are due at the
beginning of the assigned class period. Assignments turned in after the instructor has called for
assignments to be turned in are late.
5.
Assignment Format Policy - All assignments must be typewritten or word processed. Exceptions will be
given in specific situations. Work done for this class is to be original, done exclusively for this course and
comply with course standards as outlined by the instructor.

Students must submit their exam as completed before exiting the examination room. Students exiting the
examination room prior to submitting the exam will receive a "0" for that exam.

Make up Examinations: Students should notify the instructor immediately of any conflicts with scheduled
examinations. Failure to do so could result in a "0" for the exam.. If the student has a valid excuse, the
exam will be rescheduled at my convenience.

Meetings Industry Mall (MIM) New in the industry is the Meetings Industry Mall, an informal information
system on the internet. Each student is expected to subscribe to the MIM and get on their list. (No charge)
You will be required to review the messages each day (could be 30 or 40) and find a topic that is relevant to
what we are learning. You will be quizzed on that very topic orally each week. This forum is one of the
most important communications tools in the meetings industry with over 4000 members reading the posts
each day.

Field Trip - Field Trip attendance will be treated as class attendance. Students are responsible for arranging
transportation to/from each trip. This semester the field trip will begin at 5:00pm and dismiss at 7:00pm
unless otherwise specified by the instructor. Students unable to make the field trip should contact the
instructor. This field trip, scheduled for November 1 is critical to course study. We will meet at the
Radisson Scottsdale promptly at 5:00pm Details will be given one week before.
