Research Institute concludes SPSS training workshop

PRESS RELEASE
Qatar University's Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) yesterday
concluded its training workshop on Analysis of Survey Data Using SPSS which was held on
April 11-14.
The aim of the workshop was to
provide beginner- and mid-level
researchers with expert guidance
on statistical analysis using the
common package SPSS, which
would be of beneft to them in
their respective felds.
Workshop participants were from
QU, Doha International Institute
for Family Studies and
Development, Emirates Center for
Strategic Studies and Research,
Weill Cornell Medical College in
Qatar, College of the North
Atlantic - Qatar, Evaluation
Institute (Supreme Education
Council), Family Consulting
Center, Ministry of Business and
Trade, Qatar Statistics Authority, Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Al-Ahnaf Bin Qais
Independent Prep School for Boys, and Ali Bin Soud Al Thani Research Center (Alieman
Independent School).
The 4-day program was delivered by expert trainers Dr Abdoulaye Diop, Dr M Nizam
Khan, Dr Kien Trung Le and Dr Hanan Abdul-Rahim from SESRI, and Prof Nancy Burns,
Dr Kenneth Coleman, Prof Michael Traugott, Dr Ted Brader and PhD student Ashley
Jardinaa from the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan. In addition to
the formal training sessions, the trainers provided individualized discussions and
consultations on participants' personal research projects.
Topics included Organizing Data Analysis & Recoding, Missing Data & Scale-Building,
Basic Hypothesis Testing & Introduction to Ordinary Least Squares Regression, and
Ordinary Least Squares Regression & Secrets to Data Presentation.

Commenting on the training program, Dr Abdul-Rahim said, "Building capacity in using and analyzing
statistical data is one of the key strategic objectives of SESRI, and this workshop is another event in a series
of steps that the Institute is keen on taking in this direction. We are very pleased to cooperate with experts
from the University of Michigan on this important objective."
