Times Picayune: “Stephen Rushing reprised his dual duties colorfully as the Imperial Commissioner and Yamadori.”
Times Picayune: “In the role of Dr. Bartolo, baritone Stephen Rushing was an endearing victim, rather than a villain whose wellmodulated voice conveyed the character’s confusion as well as his determination.”
WYES-TV, New Orleans ( Kismet /Hajj): “An excellent actor/singer.”
Gambit Weekly ( Kismet /Hajj): “Stephen Rushing drew special notice as the street poet Hajj . . . Rushing has gained renown for his excellent, classically-trained voice, and he displayed it to full effect in songs such as “fate” and “The Olive Tree.” No wonder he has appeared in productions ranging from professional opera to regional theater.”
Wichita Eagle Beacon ( Messiah ): “There were certainly moments in the Wichita Choral Society’s “ Messiah ” that featured that kind of heartfelt interpretation. The tenor and baritone soloists best served the masterpiece’s subtleties . . . [Rushing’s] full-bodied but agile voice was at its declamatory best in “the Trumpet Shall Sound.” Most pleasant to hear was baritone Stephen Rushing, whose voice is warm and even from top to bottom. Rushing sang with purposeful intensity that Handel, who meant his oratorios to be dramatic, surely would have appreciated.”
“ Rushing has gained renown for his excellent, classically-trained voice.”; “Rushing’s well-modulated voice conveyed the character’s confusion as well as his determination”; and “An excellent Actor/Singer,” are what the reviewers are saying and writing about
American baritone, Stephen Rushing.
