Dan received a LLB/JD from the Universities of Windsor and Detroit in 1991, and was
called to the Bar in 1993. Prior to joining LAWPRO Dan practiced for seven years in the
Litigation Department of a Niagara area law firm, doing work in the general civil, family,
employment, real estate, wills and estates areas. Dan has advanced technology skills,
and for several years also held the Manager of Information Systems position at his firm.
Dan joined L AW PRO in January 2000 and is currently Director, practicePRO. LAW PRO
provides malpractice coverage to 20,000 lawyers in Ontario. practicePRO, LAW PRO's
risk management initiative, provides lawyers with tools and resources to assist them in
avoiding malpractice claims and succeeding in the practice of law.
Dan is a prolific writer and speaker on risk management, technology and law practice
management issues. Dan is a veteran of hundreds of presentations, and has presented
at of Ontario Bar Association and Canadian Bar Association CLE programs, the Law
Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Course, the LegalTech and Technology for
Lawyers conferences in Toronto, the American Bar Association's TECHSHOW in
Chicago, and many other CLE programs and conferences all over North America. He
Chaired the both the 2003 and 2004 OBA/LSUC Technology for Lawyers Conferences
in Toronto.
Through a variety of roles Dan has actively participated in the CBA and OBA. He is
currently Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Law Practice Management and
Technology Section, and at the OBA is Chair of the Technology Committee, sits on the
Main CLE Committee and is on the executive of the Solo, Small Firm and General
Practice Section.
Dan also very active in the American Bar Association's Law Practice Management
Section, where he is on the Law Practice Today Webzine Editorial Board
(www.lawpracticetoday.org), and a member of the Practice Management Advisors Task
Force. He is Chair of the ABA TECHSHOW 2007 Legal Technology Conference and
Expo. He also writes a monthly column for ABA LPM Section’s Law Practice Magazine.
