This year the annual Holiday Party and final gay la was a potluck hosted by Tom and Brenda Moore at their residence. Nineteen members came to enjoy the festivities. A guest chef from Zins demonstrated sushi rolls and Guinness braised lamb chops with Cheddar cheese & rye chips. Besides the featured appetizers, this years main fare was a pork loin roast and the rest of the members Tom Moore & Gerry Elseman providing the other menu items depending on where they parked or at least that is what the email said. I wonder who put that out? I think Tom was worried about having 500 or so rolls and nothing else to eat, but it worked out just fine despite the parking email hoax. The chef was a big hit and had quite a crowd around watching how the appetizers were prepared. Once dinner was over Darrell had a short awards presentation and business meeting. Jim Millick, our region Vice-President, received the Rexroat Porsche Cup Enthusiast of the Year Award. This award has been circulating since 1976 and was out of circulation for about a ten year span from 1989 to 1998. Since then it has been back in circulation and hasn‛t missed a year. Congratulations Jim! In the past, we would have had an autocross award but that was nixted without any autocrossing taking place. After the short awards presentation, Darrell had a few left over items from past events that were handed out to some deserving members. Tom and Brenda received the 50th anniversary wine glasses for hosting the event. Michael and Diane Sondergard also received some wine glasses. I believe that a 40th anniversary shirt or two or three were also raffled off by guessing how many chocolate chips were used in the truffles. I know that Joanne Chesney won one of the shirts but I am not sure who Jim Millick & Darrell Frett the other winners were. ATLANTA, Dec. 10, 2009 - Bloomberg News today announced the 2010 Porsche Panamera as its Car of the Year for 2009. This is Bloomberg’s first-ever Car of the Year selections, with seven categories in all, including Car of the Year, Green Car, Economy, Family, All-Around SUV, Sports Car and Executive Sedan. “The Porsche Panamera has broken the sports-sedan category wide open, producing a truly desirable auto that combines the best elements of a sports car and comfortable four-door,” Harper said. “Fast and fun, the Panamera is a car with real appeal.” All eligible contenders were evaluated by Bloomberg’s weekly auto columnist, Jason H. Harper, who drives and tests hundreds of luxury, sports and alternativefuel autos each year. The selectees were evaluated in terms of overall performance, intelligent Porsche’s first four-door car and the company’s fourth model line went on sale in October, joining the company’s successful stable of performance thoroughbreds: the mid-engine Boxster and Cayman, the Cayenne SUV and the iconic 911 Carrera. The Bloomberg recognition comes on the heals of the Panamera receiving an Edmunds Inside Line Editors’ Most Wanted 2010 trophy at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show (article link: http://www.insideline. com/features/2010-edmunds-inside-line-editors-most-wantedawards.html). All Three Panamera Models Deliver High Performance and Low Fuel Consumption Initially offered in three versions - the 400horsepower, two-wheel drive Panamera S and all-wheel drive Panamera 4S, and the 500horsepower, twin-turbocharged, all-wheel drive Panamera Turbo - the new Panamera provides Porsche performance and quality, as well as a level of comfort absent among true high-performance cars. This system saves fuel and reduces emissions by turning the engine off when it is not needed, such as sitting at a stop light. All engines have advanced and fuel-efficient Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), as well. Porsche engineers also focused on weight savings and lightweight technologies to further enhance fuel efficiency. As a result, the Panamera S and Panamera 4S deliver 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway (19 mpg combined), while the Panamera Turbo achieves 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway (18 mpg combined). Amazingly, these figures were achieved without activating the standard auto start/stop system. All Panamera models are not subject to the gas guzzler tax and provide the best fuel economy in their competitive set. Today, just three months after the new Panamera went on sale the 10,000th car rolled off the production line at the Leipzig plant of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. The 500 HP platinum silver metallic Panamera Turbo will be delivered to a customer in Singapore. Michael Macht, Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG: “Sales of the Panamera have really taken off: we have already secured over 9,000 orders. Shortly after it was launched our Gran Turismo won the coveted “Goldenes Lenkrad” [“Golden steering wheel”] and “Auto Trophy” awards in Germany. It has also won many international prizes.” The Panamera 4S is proving particularly popular and has a share of 44 percent - putting it ahead of the Turbo (36 percent) and the Panamera S (20 percent). The company plans to build 20,000 Panamera per year across the whole product cycle. The fourth Porsche model series is being manufactured at the Leipzig plant in the so-called model mix, sharing a production line with the Cayenne SUV. The innovative, highly streamlined production is seen as a model of technological and economic excellence for the automobile industry worldwide. John Ruyle and I drove up to AIH Chrome in Dubuque to pick up some chrome plating that I had done for Shelley’s 356. I had contacted Richard to see if we could stop by while we were in Dubuque. He was more than accomodating and it allowed us to take a first hand peek at his project. As I stated in the December issue Richard started a thread on the Pelikan Parts forum. Here is the link that will give you some of the history of his car and what his plans are and how he is progressing: http://forums. pelicanparts.com/porsche-911technical-forum/472762-rsr-update.html It is always better to get the opportunity to see a project first hand and discuss the pro’s and cons of the upgrades or changes being made. Richard began this project over a year ago with the plans of having it completed this past summer. Unfortunately, he ran into some unforseen repairs while he was in the process of performing the modifications. Last month I showed pictures of his front pan and gas tank support replacement that is typical for these early 911s. I have also had to replace mine so I know what he is dealing with. This is a must check on the older 911s as it may look okay but upon closer inspection you may be disappointed to find out that your metal isn’t up to par. It is always a good idea to give your car a thu- rough inspection while it is down for the winter. Anyway, back to Richard. Like I said he was more than accomodating and we spent quite a bit of time with him and Ben Burris going over the car from one end to the other. He has quite the perfect set up to do this project at his home as you will see by the photos. I was able to discuss what he uses for his bump steering fix and come up with a cost effective solution for my car. It is one thing to talk to someone over the phone or look at something online and another to actually see a product or This garage is under the house. This little visit provided me with some answers on which direction to head with my own upgrades/repairs that have been nagging at me over the years, but I wasn’t comfortable with the solutions at the time. I’ve been travelling a fair bit since your visit with some trips to New Zealand, Australia and Finland. This is why I missed the holiday party - sorry. I’m now all done travelling for the year - and looking forward to a few weeks break over Christmas. I worked on the design the injection risers along with my engine builder - I wouldn’t want to take all of the credit for the work a few photos attached. The injector risers adapt the older 930 cylinder heads to a newer 993TT inlet manifold. I used the 993TT inlet manifold to improve the airflow into the engine as the 930 manifolds are very restrictive. The injector risers are also needed to install electronic injectors to each cylinder as the 930 engines had the older CIS injection. Richard http://cia.pca.org PAGE 13 Who’s Doing What Here is an update on my 911. Most of the metal work has been completed and I just stopped by to pick up some items and make a parts list of needed things that were discovered while it is apart. The main reason for the visit was to position the new mirrors. Always easier said than done. After about three hours I think we came up with a location that will look aesthetically pleasing and I will still be able to see something meaningful when I look in them. All said and done it was a good visit. Here are some photos of the progress. I want to caution you as they are not for the faint of heart. These two photos are in the completion stage of the work as both of the flares have already been cut off and reattached. As you can see by the photos they do fantastic work at Stalltek. They are truly artists. The inset photo is at the beginning of the work. This flare was leaded in so it appears to look okay but it is not installed as it should be. More to come. . . . . . http://cia.pca.org PAGE 14 Home Remedies A very good friend of mine Snooks Bouska, sent me these simple home remedies that actually work.
