CIA’s Annual Holiday Party!!
This year the annual Holiday Party and final gay la was a
potluck hosted by Tom and Brenda Moore at their residence. Nineteen members came to enjoy the festivities.
A guest chef from Zins demonstrated sushi rolls and
Guinness braised lamb chops with Cheddar cheese & rye
chips. Besides the featured appetizers, this years main
fare was a pork loin roast and the rest of the members

that is what the email said. I wonder who put that
out? I think Tom was worried about having 500 or so
rolls and nothing else to eat, but it worked out just
fine despite the parking email hoax. The chef was a
big hit and had quite a crowd around watching how
the appetizers were prepared. Once dinner was over
Darrell had a short awards presentation and business meeting. Jim Millick, our region Vice-President,
received the Rexroat Porsche Cup Enthusiast of the
Year Award. This award has been circulating since
1976 and was out of circulation for about a ten year
span from 1989 to 1998. Since then it has been back
in circulation and hasn‛t missed a year. Congratulations Jim! In the past, we would have had an autocross
award but that was nixted without any autocrossing taking place. After the short awards presentation, Darrell had a few left over items from past events that were handed out to some deserving members. Tom and Brenda received the 50th anniversary wine glasses for hosting the event.
Michael and Diane

The Rexroat Porsche Cup
Here’s a little history about the award according to Stu Lehr
Mike Rexroat owned Rexroat Porsche Audi Peugoet in Rock Island- he was previously a salesman
at Gruber Porsche Audi in Cedar Rapids, on Center Point Road. I got my 914 and my dad his 914 from
him. Ken Gruber was the owner. Previously Mike was a salesman at Allen Imports on First Ave near St.
Lukes.
One of the mechanics at Rexroat, Dick Wolbers, still works at LuJacks. In fact, he worked on Kent’s
Cayman and came out to talk to him and tell him about his grandfather! Small world. Tom Bruch would
remember him as Tom was the chief Porsche mechanic at Grubers.
It was (is) a traveling trophy to enthusiast of the year etc. Yep, I did win that a couple times...that
goes back a ways doesn’t it??? (Bit of trivia- Mike’s brother Terry was a good friend of mine in high
school- he was killed in Viet Nam, one of the first of my classmates to do so- found his name on the
way in DC) Stu

ATLANTA, Dec. 10, 2009
- Bloomberg News today announced the 2010 Porsche Panamera as its Car of the Year
for 2009. This is Bloomberg’s
first-ever Car of the Year selections, with seven categories in
all, including Car of the Year,
Green Car, Economy, Family,
All-Around SUV, Sports Car and
Executive Sedan.
“The Porsche Panamera has
broken the sports-sedan category wide open, producing a truly
desirable auto that combines
the best elements of a sports
car and comfortable four-door,”
Harper said. “Fast and fun, the
Panamera is a car with real appeal.”
All eligible contenders were evaluated by Bloomberg’s weekly
auto columnist, Jason H. Harper,
who drives and tests hundreds
of luxury, sports and alternativefuel autos each year. The selectees were evaluated in terms of

the company’s successful stable
of performance thoroughbreds:

The Bloomberg recognition
comes on the heals of the Panamera receiving an Edmunds

10,000th Panamera leaves the Leipzig plant
Stuttgart/Leipzig. Today, just
three months after the new Panamera went on sale the 10,000th
car rolled off the production line
at the Leipzig plant of Dr. Ing.
h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart.
The 500 HP platinum silver metallic Panamera Turbo will be
delivered to a customer in Singapore.
Michael Macht, Chairman of the
Board of Porsche AG: “Sales of
the Panamera have really taken
off: we have already secured
over 9,000 orders. Shortly after it
was launched our Gran Turismo
won the coveted “Goldenes Lenkrad” [“Golden steering wheel”]
and “Auto Trophy” awards in
Germany. It has also won many
international prizes.” The Panamera 4S is proving particularly
popular and has a share of 44
percent - putting it ahead of the
Turbo (36 percent) and the Panamera S (20 percent).
The company plans to build
20,000 Panamera per year
across the whole product cycle.
The fourth Porsche model series is being manufactured at
the Leipzig plant in the so-called
model mix, sharing a production
line with the Cayenne SUV. The
innovative, highly streamlined
production is seen as a model
of technological and economic
excellence for the automobile industry worldwide.

Who’s Doing
What
Here is an update on Richard
Lawler’s project as of mid November. John Ruyle and I drove
up to AIH Chrome in Dubuque
to pick up some chrome plating
that I had done for Shelley’s 356.
I had contacted Richard to see if
we could stop by while we were
in Dubuque. He was more than
accomodating and it allowed us
to take a first hand peek at his
project. As I stated in the December issue Richard started a
thread on the Pelikan Parts forum. Here is the link that will give
you some of the history of his car
and what his plans are and how
he is progressing: http://forums.
pelicanparts.com/porsche-911technical-forum/472762-rsr-update.html
It is always better to get the opportunity to see a project first
hand and discuss the pro’s and
cons of the upgrades or changes
being made. Richard began this
project over a year ago with the
plans of having it completed this
past summer. Unfortunately, he
ran into some unforseen repairs
while he was in the process of
performing the modifications.
Last month I showed pictures of
his front pan and gas tank support replacement that is typical
for these early 911s. I have also
had to replace mine so I know
what he is dealing with. This is a
must check on the older 911s as
it may look okay but upon closer
inspection you may be disappointed to find out that your metal isn’t up to par. It is always a
good idea to give your car a thu-
rough inspection while it is down
for the winter. Anyway, back
to Richard. Like I said he was
more than accomodating and we
spent quite a bit of time with him
and Ben Burris going over the
car from one end to the other.
He has quite the perfect set up
to do this project at his home as
you will see by the photos. I was
able to discuss what he uses for
his bump steering fix and come
up with a cost effective solution
for my car. It is one thing to talk
to someone over the phone or
look at something online and another to actually see a product or

fix in use. This little visit provided
me with some answers on which
direction to head with my own
upgrades/repairs that have been
nagging at me over the years,
but I wasn’t comfortable with
the solutions at the time. Thank
you Richard for taking time out
of your busy schedule to spend
time with me and John. It was

Hi Mike,
I hope you are doing well and
the winter hasn’t forced you to be
grounded. I’ve been travelling a fair
bit since your visit with some trips
to New Zealand, Australia and Finland. This is why I missed the holiday party - sorry. I’m now all done
travelling for the year - and looking
forward to a few weeks break over
Christmas. I worked on the design
the injection risers along with my
engine builder - I wouldn’t want to
take all of the credit for the work a few photos attached. The injector
risers adapt the older 930 cylinder
heads to a newer 993TT inlet manifold. I used the 993TT inlet manifold
to improve the airflow into the engine as the 930 manifolds are very
restrictive. The injector risers are
also needed to install electronic injectors to each cylinder as the 930
engines had the older CIS injection.

Who’s Doing
What
Here is an update on my 911.
Most of the metal work has been
completed and I just stopped by
to pick up some items and make
a parts list of needed things that
were discovered while it is apart.
The main reason for the visit was
to position the new mirrors. Always easier said than done. After about three hours I think we
came up with a location that will
look aesthetically pleasing and I
will still be able to see something
meaningful when I look in them.
All said and done it was a good
visit. Here are some photos of
the progress. I want to caution
you as they are not for the faint
of heart. These two photos are in the completion stage of the work
as both of the flares have already been cut off and reattached. As
you can see by the photos they do fantastic work at Stalltek. They
are truly artists. The inset photo is at the beginning of the work. This
flare was leaded in so it appears to look okay but it is not installed as
it should be. More to come. . . . . .

How to type German Umlauts
You know those little dots over
the letters. Well if you ever wondered how to do that since there
really ins’t a key on your computer keyboard to do that here
is how: http://www.mckinnonsc.
vic.edu.au/la/lote/german/materials/umlauts.htm
1. Avoid cutting your self when you
are slicing vegetables by getting
someone else to hold the vegetables while you slice.
2. Avoid arguments with females
about lifting the seat by using the
sink.
3. For high blood pressure sufferers, simply cut yourself and bleed
for a few minutes, thus reducing the
pressure on your veins. Remember to use a timer.
4. A mousetrap on top of your alarm
clock will prevent you from rolling
over and going back to sleep after
you hit the snooze button.
5. If you have a bad cough take a
large dose of laxatives. Then you
will be aftraid to cough.
6. You only need two tools in life WD-40 and duct tape. If it moves
and shouldn’t, use the duct tape
and if it doesn’t move and should,
use the WD-40.
7. If you can’t fix it with a hammer or
the smoke came out, you have an
electical problem.

FVR Invites CIA to attend it events for 2010!!
Good Morning and Happy Holidays!
Attached are the mostly confirmed dates for events for the Fox Valley Region for 2010. Please note that any PCA
members are always more than welcome to attend any activity we offer. We would be most honored to have any of
our “neighbors” participate in our or events. We will be traveling to northern and central Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, Eastern Wisconsin, Southern and Southwestern Wisconsin, so we will be covering a lot of territory, some of
which crosses into, or borders on the CWI, MKE, Central Iowa, and Nord Stern regions. Of particular note:
May 21 -23 A spring waterfalls tour hosted by a new member from the U.P. We will use the Days Inn in Eagle
River, WI as home base Friday and Saturday nights, and will tour a 1/2 dozen or so beautiful waterfalls and
parks in Upper Michigan on Saturday and part of Sunday. The host, Al Curran, tells us that after the snow melts,
the rivers are quite swollen so the falls are spectacular.
June 6 - Tour of three of Wisconsin’s most beautiful state parks in the Kettle Moraine area. Lots of curvy, twisting,
hilly roads, just made for Porsche driving!
June 12 - LADIES’ ONLY tour to Door County. We had 17 ladies last year and expect that number to significantly
increase this year. Shopping, lunch, wine tasting, antiquing and a stop at a farm market and lighthouse are all part
of the day’s trip.
July 10 - Car carvan to the Iola Car Show with picnic at the Wilkinson’s to conclude the day. (Mark Wilkinson is
our new newsletter editor)
July 24 - Our 20th Anniversary celebration at Trout Springs Winery. Live music, Bocce ball, wine tasting, tours of
the winery and fish hatchery, silent auction, door prizes, potluck dinner, special anniversary t-shirts, and more.
August 7 - “Motor head” picnic. Pete and Kathie Bollenbach have invited their motorcycle friends from the Chicago
area (many of whom also own Porsches) for a joint social and driving event. The day will include a tour or rally,
live music, pig roast, shuttle drivers to and from the hotel (a casino resort is nearby), and more.
September 17 -19 - Our infamous fall tour. We had 26 cars in 2009 and expect to have a similar level of participation in 2010. This year’s tour with take us to southwestern WI near the Prairie du Chien and Spring Green areas.
There is a possibility that Kurt & Angie Gibson will be joining us. Ruven & Janet Ledesma were our special guests
in 2009.
If you need any assistance with hotel or traveling accommodations, please feel free to contact me at any time. I
would be most happy to help. More details about all these events will be published in our newsletter and on our
website www.fvr-pca.com or http://fv.pca.org in the upcoming months. Just thought I’d give you a head’s up on the
dates and contacts. If you would share this information with your region’s members via newsletter or website, we
would be most appreciative. Please feel free to send us your information, too!!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!!
