FORWARD
Dear Colleagues,
It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Pan Arab
Interventional Radiology Society (PAIRS) Annual Scientific Meeting
that is taking place on March 12-14, 2015 at the Intercontinental
Hotel in Dubai, UAE.
Building on your contribution to the success of the previous
PAIRS meeting, we are delighted to welcome you in the bustling
metropolitan city of Dubai.
The 2015 edition has taken a graceful step towards the international
arena in order to deliver a higher caliber meeting. The scientific
committee has therefore compiled an educational meeting that
will deliver state-of-the-art presentations and plenty of opportunities
in the expanding field of Interventional Radiology (IR).
The meeting is also a great opportunity to meet and network with
colleagues in the field of IR. More than 400 healthcare professionals
are expected to attend most of them coming from the MENA
region. The meeting will convene over a three-day period and
present major updates through plenary and parallel sessions,
workshops and scientific symposia.
We are looking forward to having your presence in this unique
educational experience that aims to promote excellence in
medical education in the Middle East and GCC region.

ABOUT
PAIRS
The Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society (PAIRS)
was established in 2006, based in Beirut and aims to
spread the knowledge about interventional radiology in
the Arab world and region.
Interventional radiology is one of the most dynamic
medical fields today. It is the true merge between
medicine and high technology. Interventional radiologists
are medical specialists with an in-depth training and
foundation in diagnostic radiology including radiation
safety, radiation physics, the biological effects of radiation
and injury prevention.
Interventional radiologists are the pioneers in performing
minimally invasive procedures replacing traditional
surgery and providing new modes of treatments for
multiple health conditions utilizing imaging guidance,
yet maintaining the standards for safety and quality.
PAIRS aim to educate patients and other medical
professionals in our region about interventional radiology
and new high tech, cutting edge alternatives to patients.
PAIRS also aims also to educate interventional radiologists
about update in the specialty through multiple
educational activities in addition to its annual scientific
meeting.

Dr. Jérôme Berge is an Interventional Neuroradiologist in Bordeaux France, since
1991. Studying medicine and interventional neuroradiology in France is a real
opportunity since these endovascular techniques have been developed since
the beginning of the seventies. Dr. Berge learned diagnostic neuroradiology in
Bordeaux with Professor Caillé and Professor Dousset during his residency and
fellowship. Thereafter he learned interventional neuroradiology in Paris with Prof.
Jacques Moret, Pierre Lasjaunias, and Georges Rodesch and in Lille with Prof. JP
Pruvo, from 1991 to 2000.
Bordeaux is now one of the main centers in France and Europa for endovascular
techniques in neurologic field with 3 and soon 5 full time practitioners treating
patient’s intracranial vascular pathologies, 7/7 days and 24/24 hours. Special
attention is given to the department to research in brain inflammation. We are this
year supported by an academic grant and several co-financing from the industry
for a research about “inflammatory reaction in the aneurysmal wall leading to
growth and rupture”.
The clinical expertise is widespread in many compartments, such as flow diverters,
strentrievers and aspiration devices but also for ENT embolization techniques and
spine percutaneous approaches. We have got the most important experience in
Europe about volumetric coils.

radiology, and Endoscopic Interventions (including training at Karolinska Hospital,
Stockholm), prior to focusing on cancer-related and gynaecological interventions
with an emphasis on embolotherapy.
Over the last 12 years, he has performed over 1000 pelvic vein embolization
personally and shared his experience nationally and internationally
offering lectures and ‘hands-on’ experience including numerous live cases.
Notwithstanding its historical use in the management of pelvic venous congestion
syndrome, in his view the procedure will soon become widely practised
internationally to support the huge growth in minimally invasive peripheral venous
interventions, since a significant number of lower limb varicose veins have a pelvic
venous source. Evidence shows that early treatment of such veins will reduce
the rate of primary treatment failure, whilst the procedure may also be useful in
managing recurrent lower limb varicose veins.
