Dr Aprill has worked closely with researchers such as Nikolai Bogduk, Richard Derby, Anthony Schwarzer, Joseph Fortin on development and interpretation of high tech imaging and interventional diagnostic procedures such as provocation discography, facet and sacroiliac joint blocks. He is a foundation member of the International Spinal Intervention Society and continues to teach regularly at their instructional courses. He has also worked closely with physiotherapy researchers such as Robert Medcalf, Ronald Donelson, Mark Laslett and colleagues, and is uniquely aware of the issues and problems physiotherapists have in understanding the connection between clinical findings and imaging results. He is also unique in that though a radiologist, he examines patients as a crucial part of his clinical workup so that imaging and diagnostic studies are clinically meaningful.
