Challenge Word List
Don’t forget…the reading time for
homework is now 30+ minutes each evening. The
reading can be “read to self,” “read to someone,” or
“listen to reading.” A few students have been
listening to CD’s of higher level books while they
are reading along in their own book, and their
fluency and comprehension has increased
dramatically this year! Any form of reading is
beneficial!!!

VALENTINE’S DAY
ACTIVITIES
Calendar
Thurs., Jan. 30—Special: Music/PE; HOMEWORK:
Read 30+ minutes; Practice X or ÷ Math facts 5+
minutes; Bring swim stuff (suit, towel, plastic bag);
Study spelling words
Fri., Jan. 31-- Special: Library,
Fourth Swim
Class!
There will be no formal party on Fri.,
February 14th, but students can still bring in
Valentine Cards or small goodies such as
pencils, stickers, and candy for an exchange.
Please, do not put names on cards since it will
be easier to pass out. There are 25 students in
our class.
Instead of a party, the day will focus on all
kinds of learning activities using Bubble Gum.
We will be doing Science experiments, Math
games, and Language Arts activities. For these
activities the students may be chewing bubble
gum—lots of gum. If you do not want your
child to chew gum, please let me know. I know
we have some students who have braces or
retainers, so I will find an alternative treat for
those students. It is not necessary for the
students to chew gum in order to participate in
the learning activities—it just makes it more
fun!
If you would like to donate any packs of
bubble gum for our day, it would be
appreciated. Thank you!
