Objectives: Students will…
-Read, discuss, and analyze text of The Crucible through student-guided reading.
-Perform textual analysis through composition using examples and explanations in the
text.
What you will do: In your group, you will…
-Read Act II in The Crucible together as a group. How you read is completely up to
your group, you may read solo, you may perform a dramatic reading together, etc. The
only rule is that you cannot interrupt the other groups’ readings.
-Once complete, you will discuss and complete the questions for Act II using at least
one quote from The Crucible and an explanation of that quote in your answers.
This will be scored as two (2) Homework/Classwork scores and your class
participation for the week.

Group Leader__________________- This student is in charge of student conduct and
ensuring all work is completed by the end of class. Must submit notes on student
conduct.
Reading Consultant __________________- This student is in charge of making sure
reading of The Crucible goes smoothly in class. Must submit notes on the reading
strategy used by the group and its effectiveness.
Group Recorder__________________- This student (who must have good
handwriting) is in charge of writing the final report on the character guide.
Quote Finder/Researcher __________________- This student is responsible for
finding quotes and outside research using their technology devices. Must submit a
statement about why the quotes and research citations were chosen.

story about the Salem Wtich Trials but seems to find it “necessary to explain why these
things take place and how, in fact, people come to believe in witches.” Based on
