Title: Department: Reports to: Location: FLSA Status: Work Schedule: Directly Supervises: Community Education and Events Supervisor Recycling Community Education and Events Program Coordinator Novato, California Full time, Hourly, Non-Exempt from wage & hour laws Tuesday - Saturday 7:00am – 3:30pm, plus other scheduled weekend and evenings during the year 5-20 Corpsmembers and 1-2 Staff Assistant Supervisors SUMMARY Conservation Corps North Bay operates an extensive recycling collection program that is vital to agencies that manage Marin and Sonoma county parks, businesses and schools. Over 250,000 pounds of beverage containers and paper is collected each year from over 883 collection points around the North Bay. CCNB’s corpsmembers also conduct outreach and education to thousands of students, businesses, and community volunteers about recycling and environmental stewardship. The Community Education and Events Supervisor provides supervision of 5- 20 corpsmembers, 1-2 assistant supervisors to implement a wide-range of recycling services for the community including, but not limited to, the collection of cans and bottles, electronic waste, and waste tires. The Community Education and Events Supervisor coordinates the education, outreach, and event recycling programs which includes the coordination of outreach activities and medium to large scale event planning. The Education and Events Supervisor guides and mentors corpsmembers in personal and academic development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling and waste management issues. This position works directly with and reports to the Community Education and Events Coordinator. Project Management: Direct and motivate 5- 20 corpsmembers, and 1-2 assistant supervisors Develop and coordinate daily work schedules and documentation Facilitate corpsmembers’ personal and professional development Evaluate performance and enforce program policies Train corpsmembers on recycling and waste diversion, e-waste and tire collection, waste audits and performing outreach at special events Plan, prepare and lead special events; supervise staff and corpsmembers during special events Develop outreach and marketing programs to increase awareness of projects and services Fill in for assistant supervisors on projects and routes as needed Organize and lead education at schools throughout the County of Marin and Sonoma Ensure that all safety procedures are followed and proper infrastructure and trainings are implemented to meet all local, state, and federal regulations Program Development: Establish contact with new program clients and community members through a comprehensive outreach plan Collaborate with CRC Supervisor in conducting education and outreach to the community at special events Work with other CCNB program staff to develop project goals, objectives and programspecific trainings Identify and implement efficiencies to meet budget requirements as directed by program manager Administration: Maintain tracking systems for outreach, education and special event recycling collections, grant objectives, training records, timesheets and attendance Document collection of e-waste and waste tires at special events in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Compile data and submit monthly status reports to the Community Recycling Program Coordinator Represent program and organization at a variety of public forums REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: College level coursework in environmental science, education, marketing, or equivalent experience Understanding of recycling, waste management and conservation issues Ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes in a positive motivating fashion Project management experience including data analysis Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong MS Office software skills: specifically Word and Excel Ability to track and aggregate data on spreadsheets California Driver’s License and DMV record with one point or less. Ability to obtain a Class B driver’s license within 2 months of hire First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire) Flexibility to limit vacation time during program’s busy period (May 1st – October 31st) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of conservation corps programs or similar job training/educational program Demonstrated experience supervising youth from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds to work together as a team Experience training youth to properly operate large vehicles and to interact professionally with the public Experience articulating recycling, waste management, and conservation issues to a diverse audience Experience with e-waste, waste tires, oil recycling operations, and community education Experience operating commercial vehicles Experience serving and volunteering in the community Strong service ethic with the ability to instill this ethic into team members Spanish language skills PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
