JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Community Education and Events (Temp) Associate Department: Reports to: Location: Classification: FLSA Status: Work Schedule: Community Recycling Program Community Education and Event Coordinator Novato, CA Temporary, Part-time Non-Exempt from wage and hour laws Scheduled work hours are variable due to event needs but will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays. SUMMARY Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) operates an extensive recycling collection program that is vital to agencies that manage Marin and Sonoma county parks, businesses and schools. Over 300,000 pounds of recyclable material is collected each year from over 900 collection points around the North Bay. CCNB’s corpsmembers also conduct outreach and education to thousands of students, businesses, and community volunteers about recycling, waste diversion and environmental stewardship. Under the direction of the Community Education and Events Coordinator, the Community Education and Events Intern will assist with collection duties at special events and engage with the public to educate them about recycling. The Community Education and Events Intern will help assist with developing, and conducting education outreach within the communities of Marin and Sonoma Counties. This includes visits to classrooms, special events, and assisting with the designing and distribution of marketing materials. Duties also include; assisting with creating, implementing and leading hands-on recycling at schools and events. Other job duties also include conducting waste audits with schools, events, and other partners and using collected data to create waste reports and assisting partners in reaching zero waste goals. Additionally the Community Education and Events Intern will also assist with managing CCNB’s social media channels and online outreach efforts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed include, but are not limited to: Program Development Assist in developing education and outreach campaigns Aid in management of CCNB social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) Assisting in developing and conducting surveys Education topics include (but are not limited to) used oil, electronics, cans and bottles, and tire recycling Special Events Setting up and tearing down of ECO-stations, proper sorting of recycling, hauling materials to the correct debris box. Communicating with clients and event staff, and reporting progress and challenges to the Community Education and Events Coordinator. Provide education and outreach to the public REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated ability to follow direction regarding safety and implement safety procedures Basic knowledge or experience in recycling, composting, conservation, or other environmentally-related field Experience in education and outreach to the public Class C, California Driver License Effective communication skills Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bi-lingual in Spanish and English Experience in social media management Knowledge of Microsoft Excel PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The Community Education and Event position is a non-exempt, temporary position. Compensation is $11.00 per hour. There are no benefits associated with this position.
