Director of Chancel Choir – Our Master’s Center Needed Christ United Methodist Church, a 1600 member church in NE Rockford, is seeking a part-time Director of Chancel Choir at Our Master’s Center. The Director of the Chancel Choir at Our Master’s Center is responsible for the music presented at Our Master’s Center by the Chancel Choir, as well as other musicians, on Sundays and for special services. The Director also oversees worship-related details. Candidates should possess a background in a variety of worship music genres, skill to lead musical groups, and willingness to learn. Director of Chancel Choir – Our Master’s Center Reports to: Status: FLSA: Director of Worship Arts and Communications Part Time Non-Exempt Job Summary The Director of the Chancel Choir at Our Master’s Center is responsible for the music presented at Our Master’s Center by the Chancel Choir, as well as other musicians, on Sundays and for special services. The Director also oversees worship-related details. Essential Functions: Select anthems for regular Sunday worship using information about the theme and scripture for the service. Select appropriate weekly sermon hymns, and hymns for first Sunday communion. Conduct regular rehearsals with the Chancel Choir and/or Praise Team and coordinate with the accompanist. Plan and rehearse musicians for special worship services. Schedule special music for summer months when choir is not regularly singing. Page 1 of 2 Encourage new singers to join the choir and engage with others with musical or artistic talent to participate in worship services. Work with children to encourage them to participate musically in worship. Regularly consult with pastors and Director of Worship Arts and Communication regarding music at Our Master’s Center. Oversee those responsible for the non-music components of worship on a weekly basis to ensure that the worship service flows smoothly. These non-music areas include, but are not limited to: special offering envelopes, paraments, communion elements, communion liturgy for the choir, ushers, and sound and media. Other Responsibilities: Participate in staff meetings as available and do announcements in Sunday worship, if appropriate. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma (or equivalent). Pass background check. Effective oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and access to email. Possess background in a variety of worship music genres, skill to lead musical groups, and willingness to learn. Physical Requirements: Able to go up and down staircases to access the entire building. Sufficient sight and hearing to manage face to face communication on the job.
