FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICE ELECTIONS 2014-2015 Each class shall elect for itself a President, a Secretary/Treasurer, and three Senators. Powers and Duties 1. The President shall preside over all class meetings and be the official representative of his class activities. He is a member of the Presidents' Club which will convene to meet with the administration or Class Moderator. He shall be a member of the Student Council, a member of the Dance Committee, a "runner" in the Magazine Drive, serve on the Magazine Committee and a member of the Block J. 2. The Secretary/Treasurer shall keep a record of all class affairs and financial matters. He shall take the place of the President in his absence. The Secretary/Treasurer shall be the class fundraiser. If called upon, he will be responsible to present a report of his class activities at the first meeting of each month. This report is to be posted on the Student Council Bulletin Board. He shall be a member of the Student Council, the Dance Committee, a "runner" in the QSP Magazine Drive, and a member of the Block J. 3. The three Senators shall be class representatives. Their primary function is to communicate to their class and to bring communication back to Student Council from their classmates. They shall assist the President and Secretary/Treasurer in class duties. They shall be members of the Student Council, the Dance Committee, "runners" in the Magazine Drive, and members of the Block J. 4. The Student Court consists of one Chief Justice and four Court Justices, one from each grade level 5. The Executive Council shall review the list of applicants and shall appoint class justice. The Freshman Class Justice shall be appointed after the election of all Freshman class officers. Qualifications of Class Officers 1. All candidates for year offices must have compiled at least a 2.50 grade point average at Jesuit and not be on academic or disciplinary probation. Must meet class requirements. 2. Must not be on probation (academic or discipline). 3. Must have at least a 2.50 GPA. 5. Must not spend more than $30.00 on campaign. 6. Can not give out campaign gratuities. 7. Must be prepared to attend all open dances as dance committee member. 8. Must be prepared to attend functions outside Jesuit as a school representative. 9. Attend weekly meetings of the Student Council. 10. Assist cheerleaders after head cheerleaders have been elected. 11. Work with cheerleaders on Spirit Week, Homecoming, WSP, Food Drive and other school wide functions. 12. Be a member of Block J. 13. Assume other responsibilities that might occur during the school year that are not listed here. ELECTIONS-CAMPAIGN RULES l. You may not distribute gratuities to other students. Gratuities include but are not limited to t-shirts, food, parties, and gifts. 2. All signs must be at least 8 l/2 by 11 inches in size. 3. No sign may be attached to the gutters of any building or draped from the roof. 4. No signs or hand outs are to be put in student lockers or affixed to cars in the parking lot. 5. All signs are to be attached with masking tape...not 6. All signs are to be in good taste and consistent with the philosophy of Jesuit High School. No signs which explicitly or implicitly express racism or sexism will be allowed. Use of vulgar language or sexual innuendo will not be tolerated. If there is a question in your mind get permission before you put it up. 7. Decisions concerning the appropriateness of campaign materials and procedures will be the responsibility of the Director of Student Activities. 8. Defacing another's posters will not be tolerated. 9. All campaign slogans and signs must be positive and directed at the issues and not the person(s). 10. You will be required to clear your posters and clean up campaign materials by a deadline after the elections. This includes removing tape from buildings. 11. Failure to comply with the rules for campaigning will result in your disqualification as a candidate. duct tape. Each speech should be no more than 2 minutes long. Practice and time your speech. Speak slowly and loudly into the microphone. Give Mr. Hancock (GP 101) a copy of your speech by the end of school on Monday, September 15th. Jokes are ok, but do not use any profanity or derogatory humor directed towards others or yourself in your speech. Voting will take place immediately after the Assembly. If a runoff election is necessary (no candidate for an office gets 50% plus one vote), it will take place the following day.
