The Good News Green Valley Baptist Church John Guillott – Pastor Ron Hood – Music Pastor 1111 N. La Cañada Drive– Green Valley, AZ 85614 – Phone: 520-625-3600 November 2015 A Word from Pastor John. . . I am typing this newsletter article a few hours after we returned from our Homes of Hope Mission Trip near Tijuana, Mexico. That experience for our mission team will have a life-changing impact on our lives. As November is right upon us – the Thanksgiving season – we have so much for which to be thankful. From my observation over the past several days – I want to list a few things for which I am thankful. Good friends (and new friends) that shared a very unusual experience over the weekend of the mission trip. Our houses are beyond “nice” in light of the many houses and shelters we saw that people lived in south of the border. Streets that you don’t do 5 MPH crawling over rocks in the middle of the streets or potholes that can swallow a vehicle. The vast resources that we have or think that we need for day to day survival – when for many people in the area we served – resources to survive are found in the dumpsters of stores and restaurants. For a church family that at first may have been skeptical of this mission trip – but yet still financially supported and prayed for the mission team. To partner with a mission organization that helps elevate families lives – and is strong on teaching the Bible and discipleship training. The list could go on and on – but you get the picture. Once we are back home – in our daily life routine – there will be a family of four, Yovani, Nuridiea, Enrique, and Mateo – that will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Helping them helped us to think about others who are in need. Sunday morning, November 15th, we will have a report to the charge regarding this trip. I look forward, as well as others, to sharing with you our own individual stories and poignant moments from this trip. I think we were all glad to get back home – but for many – after some rest – there will be a next time to go and make a difference….but…let’s look at what we can do here in our community, county, state, and country for God’s Kingdom sake. Blessings, Pastor John Notes from Pastor Ron It doesn’t seem possible that this year is almost over. Most of our snowbirds have returned, filling the choir loft. The choir is in the middle of rehearsing for the Christmas musical, “Believe” the truth of Christmas. The musical will be presented on Saturday, December 12, at 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m. Dámaris Carbaugh will present a concert. Please mark this date down and bring a friend. The Blackwood Brothers Quartet will return in 2016. They will be here on Saturday, January 9, at 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, January 10, at 10:30 a.m. We are having them twice because of such a large attendance the past three years. Come, and invite a neighbor to come with you. God bless, Pastor Ron Give Thanks! November 2015 Page Two Sunday The Shepherd’s Pen Lately I have shared with a few people what it means for me to be a member of Green Valley Baptist Church. Now, I would like to share those same thoughts with the rest of my church family. For me, to be a member of this family, I must put aside any thoughts of what this church can do for me, and replace them with how I might be able to serve my church. To be a member means that I place the needs of my church family ahead of my own, and I exercise my God given spiritual gifts for the benefit of the Body of Believers. I must practice something that is sometimes difficult for me, and that is humility. I realize that whatever I do within this Body of Believers must be for the glory of God and; moreover, all that I am blessed with is because of Him. Oh, there are times that I don’t look forward to the seemingly mundane work of the daily operation of the church, or those sometimes boring business meetings, yet I realize that they are a vitally important part of the life of this church, and I should consider it a privilege to participate. I have discovered that the benefits and rewards that I have realized because of my membership far outweigh any effort that I may have put out. God has blessed me with a wonderful and caring church family, and with a ministry made up of dedicated individuals who truly bless me far more than I feel that I have contributed. Thank you, Green Valley Baptist Church, for being such a meaningful part of my life. November Birthdays My Song of Thanksgiving O Infinite Father, I’m grateful to Thee For the moon and the stars and deep rolling sea; For beauties of nature, where e’er they may be . . . For the handclasp of friends, so firm and so true; For sunrise and sunset and glistening dew; The fleecy white clouds and the Heavens, so blue; For these wonderful gifts, dear Lord, I thank you! --Gertrude T. Buckingham Psalm 100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. (KJV) There is always, always, ALWAYS something to be thankful for.
