THESIS SENTENCE:
Formula:
Through ____ (evidence)___, ___ (claim)___;
Thus ____ (significance).
Research suggests that the main cause of teenage
lying is avoidance of punishment, and that the effect
of this lying is an opening into other more serious
types of bad behavior. Sasha, the main character in
“A Problem,” is a prime example of these real world
statistics; thus, the story demonstrates that adults
need to intervene before the problem of teenage lying
gets out of hand.
Body #1 Topic Sentence: Teenagers have many
reasons for stretching the truth, but the primary
reasons young people lie is to avoid harsh
consequences.
Body #2 Topic Sentence: While on the surface, lying
may seem like a harmless choice, research shows that
teenagers who begin to practice dishonesty regularly
eventually begin to engage in other unethical
behaviors.
Body #3 Topic Sentence: Although the story was
written in another era, the behavior and choices of
Sasha in “A Problem” demonstrate the ways that
lying and its subsequent effects can create bigger
problems.
